General Hospital
![]() | I dare say I am qualified to be called a General Hospital veteran - as of May 1998 I've been watching for half my life! I started watching in 7th grade; all my friends were arguing about who killed Terry O'Connor's grandmother - Kevin or Patrick. Everyone said Kevin, except for my best friend Amy so of course I agreed with her. Then I decided I should probably watch the show to find out who Terry and Kevin and Patrick even were! |
So, in May of 1986, I had to stay home from school for a week because of a sore throat (nothing new!) and I got to watch GH every day. By the end of the week I was hooked! Jake pushed Kevin off of a cliff to save Terry. What action! Shortly after that Frisco and Felicia got married (for the first time). I became a GH junkie. We'd even listen to it on the radio on the bus because at 3pm we were still on the ride home, and the ABC station in Philly, Channel 6, also broadcasts over the radio (87.7 FM in case you were wondering).
There have been a lot of great characters on GH over the years. Among my favorites are Robert and Anna, Frisco and Felicia, Lucy and Scotty, Mac, Sean, Duke, Jax, Lois, Nikolas, and too many more to mention. The writers at General Hospital have always balanced the serious issues with comedy, which is one of the main reasons I love this show. Luke's witty comments and the Q's ceaseless bickering are comic genius. For a complete history of GH, visit The City of Port Charles' History. | ![]() |
Guardian Angel Groups are a soap phenomenon that have become popular over the past few years. A group of fans rally around their favorite character, rooting for him (or her) and "guarding" him. Each angel picks a keepership, usually something special about the character or events in his life. These are the G.A. groups to which I belong:
The Gutter Rats | I'm the Secretary and the WebMaster |
NCGA | The Nikolas Cassadine Guardian Angels |
SBGA | The Scotty Baldwin Guardian Angels |
YCOPC | Young Couples of Port Charles |
While working on the NCGA Web Page, I compiled a list of General Hospital Guardian Angel groups. All the ones I know of are listed on my Angel Page (with the exception of a few that I thought were in poor taste). If you are in a G.A. group that isn't listed here, or if you want to update a listing, please e-mail me with the info. I'd really appreciate it!
A great yearly tradition on General Hospital is the Nurses Ball, held in honor of the Day of Compassion. Each year, members of Port Charles gather to raise money for AIDS research. While the performances are chock full of comedy (how many ways can Lucy end up in her skivvies?!?), the undertone is always serious. One of the most touching moments had to be Robin's tribute to Stone, when her Uncle Mac wrapped her in a name block made to honor Stone in the National AIDS Quilt. To find out more, visit this great Nurses Ball Web Site. | ![]() |
A great place for GH fans to get together is Port Charles On-line, affectionately known as PCO by the regulars. There, you can get info on characters, actors, fan clubs, or check out the message board - always a place for great debate!
![]() | I'd be remiss if I didn't mention ABC's newest soap, Port Charles, a spin-off of General Hospital. This soap focuses on the interns at General Hospital. This creates a lot of corss-overs between the two shows, which is fun. It usually takes me a few minutes to realize, 'Hey! This person is on the wrong show!' Fans of this fledgling soap should visit PC's neighborhood of Port Charles On-line. |
