Cloud’s Nightmare

by rumblebee25

"Please? For me?"

"No!"

"Well at least unlock the door,"grumbled Sephiroth. So far they spent the entire morning arguing over this particular request. Usually Cloud was game for anything but this time he flipped out and locked himself the bedroom. Seph could’ve kicked the door in but he didn’t . It wouldn’t help the situation one bit. Then he heard a click.

"Okay . Door’s open."

He entered carefully , just in case that click wasn’t the door. His lover was many things but stable was NOT one of them. But at the moment he was sitting on the bed , a blanket wrapped around him looking fearful and very cute.Sephiroth sat down and pulled him close. Cloud sighed," If it means that much to you, I’ll do it. I’ll get a haircut."

"You make it sound like death sentence," he teased, nuzzling the blond spikes.

"Well, it is ! For my hair at least." He was still mad but couldn’t resist that soft touch.Besides his life had turned upside down when Sephiroth returned. They managed to work out their feelings for each , but then came the real hard part. Actually living together.

They both made sacrifices.First, Sephiroth promised not kill anyone unless Cloud was in danger. Second, they sold his motorcycle and bought a car because it more practicle with the two of them.He still regretted that. Then there was the leather collar Seph got him, which he kinda liked. But now Sephiroth wanted this!

"Mmm, you’re adorable when you pout," Seph growled. He pinned the little blond to bed and started to undress him.

"When I get this haircut , I'm gonna be adorable all the time," he said before kissing Sephiroth fiercely.

"Uh, I changed my mind. Can we go home? Now?"

"Too late. If we cancel now they ‘ll still charge us for appointment." Sephiroth was calmly reading a magazine while Cloud was fidgetting. They were sitting in the waiting area of a ritzy salon in upper Midgar. Every once in awhile the receptionist would glance at the strange couple. She looked at the older man , his silver mane pulled back into ponytail that set off his startling beauty. Then she looked at the spiky haired cyberpunk next to him. He had the appointment and didn’t look happy about it . She had seen that look before. Most kids had the same expession when their parents brought them in to repair the damage of teenage rebellion. At least his hair wasn’t dyed half a dozen colors.

One the stylists called his name and lead him to her work area. Seph was right behind them. Cloud sat down in the chair and waited for his doom. "Sir you can stay in the waiting area. We’ll take good care of your son."

"HE"S NOT MY SON!!!!", roared Sephiroth. Cloud was laughing like a hyena.

"Eeep! I am so, so sorry!! Please forgive me."

"Yeah, Dad. Don’t blow a gasket,"Cloud snickered as the frightened stylist began to work. She was doing her best to keep a part in his hair but it refused. In fact his hair was resisting all known laws of physics. And his ‘friend’ glaring at her wasn’t helping. Finally she wailed," I can’t do this! " and ran off.

"Ok, the stylist is crying. Are you happy?"

"No. You still don’t have a haircut"

"Sir is there a problem?", asked an older woman. She was the owner and head stylist. It wasn’t often her employees came running to her in tears. But these two were definitely trouble.

"Ah , yes we have a problem." Seph pointed to Cloud."His hair. Do something about," he ordered.

"Let’s see." She stood behind him and ran a comb through his hair. " Hmm , strange," she muttered. It looked like the kid used a whole can of mousse on those spikes but there was no residue. And it wasn’t a body perm either. There was no damage to the hair at all. It was radiantly healthy. She saw no logical reason why it was standing up like that . Like the crest of a bird.

"Just a second. I’ll be right back," she said brightly.

"What now?" they groaned.

The woman came back with a magnifying glass and several assistants. They swarmed around Cloud and peered at his hair. Then they all let out a collective gasp.

"My goodness!"

"That can’t be!"

"What’s the matter? I got dandruff?Fleas? Cooties? What?"

"Give me that, you twit." Seph grabbed the magnifying glass from one of the stylists and examined Cloud’s hair. He was stunned.

"Seph!! What is it? Tell me!"

"Here let me show you. This might hurt," he said before yanking out a few strands of hair.

"Ow !! Quit it!!"

"Here. Look." Sephiroth handed him the magnifying glass and the hair. Then he said something that chilled Cloud to the bone.

"Just remember I love you no matter what.Or what you are."

Cloud looked at the hair. And looked again. But it didn’t change what he was seeing. Considering what Hojo did to Vincent, he always thought himself lucky. But this changed everything. He looked one more time to confirm the bad news.

He saw feathers. Very slender feathers with long blond quills with tiny bits of down lining the sides. That’s when he screamed.

The scream woke him and Seph out of a sound sleep, nearly giving his lover a heart attack in the process.Sephiroth was blindly searching for a weapon while Cloud ran to the bathroom to check his hair. He returned then to the bedroom and started dressing.

"Cloud? What’s wrong? "

"A nightmare. Go back to sleep.I’m going for a walk."

"Huh? A walk ?" Seph checked the clock on the nightstand. He groaned,"It’s 2:30, come back to bed."

Cloud sat down next to him and kissed him. Then he said," You are the love of my life and I ‘ll do anything for you , but if you call me Chocobo Boy one more time,I’m outta here."

"Ok. I’ll never call you Chocobo Boy again. Now come back here," he said patting the empty space next to him.

"Just a second , I gotta check on something."

"Check on what?"

"My motorcycle. Make sure she’s still in the garage."

"Well hurry up," he sighed,"I’m getting cold."Cloud kissed him one time then left to check on his bike.Seph rolled over and attemped to back to sleep. He had no clue as to what went on in that pretty blond head, but decided that was probably for the best.
