Two heads found on waterfront
Macau's Judicial Police believe two heads found by construction workers on Taipa Island on Monday afternoon are those of two women dismembered in a hotel room last week.
The workers found the heads in two plastic bags on the waterfront of Estrada Almirante Marques Esparteioro near the Hyatt Regency Hotel about 3pm.
The heads were taken to the Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre for forensic examination.
A police spokesman said that "in all probability'' the heads belonged to two young Chinese women dismembered in a room at the Hotel Presidente.
The site on Taipa island is three kilometres south of the Presidente.
The two plastic bags were found in undergrowth at the waterfront.
Police believe the women were murdered and dismembered in the bathtub between Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
They believe the murderer flushed the "soft'' body parts down the toilet after cutting them into small pieces, while he apparently carried other parts such as the heads and limbs away in his luggage.
Council workers last Wednesday morning found three severed fingers in the hotel sewer.
They also found other "shredded'' body parts believed to be internal organs, pieces of skin and a severed woman's breast.
Police said on Monday a mainlander, 19, questioned by the Public Security Bureau in Guangdong in connection with the case last Friday had proved "beyond any doubt'' that he was not in Macau during the murders.
His travel documents had been stolen some time ago.
"Apparently someone used that man's travel documents to book the room at the Hotel Presidente last week,'' a detective said, adding it was believed that whoever booked the room murdered the women.
Police believe the two women were mainland visitors "moonlighting as prostitutes'' during their stay in Macau.
Macau has had 18 murders this year, compared with 21 for the whole of last year.
There have been two other cases of body parts found in Macau this year.
