I told her she was terrific
     Her brows agreed
     Yesterday we visited Mong-Ha
     Old shutters guarded against the heat
     Each door had a small plaque and
                         lotus bulbs

Today we visited the past
     Old family secrets simmered with lunch
     Each memory held a promise of tenderness.
