"'Tis a truth, 'tis a lie
All is there when thou close thy eyes.

Dream, dream, dream thou shall
With the versus from the legend fall.
Once wished, shall be grant
With the prices thou shall give."

Granting stone here I come
With the hopes in my arms.
Wishing thou wilt grant my wishes.
My fate pattern is in thy hands.
Here I am, to behold
Any results shall befall.
No turn back. No regret.
Granting Stone forever more!

Prologue

It was never meant for him, but that stupid fire demon had to stand at the wrong place at the wrong time to take the deadly blast. Anyhow, the more he thought about what had happened, the guiltier he felt.

If he had only ... been ... more careful .... If only he had noticed the ki earlier ....

Yes. The ki. Such strong and distinctive ki was rising up behind him and he didn't even feel it. Was he so blind that he couldn't see - mentally or physically, or was he simply a brainless idiot at that time?

He couldn't understand. What was he thinking!?

Kurama shook his head, trying to stop himself from thinking anymore. All these activities concerning moving brain cells around made his head ache. But then again, his head had never stopped aching for the last two months.

Unexpectedly, a soft knock and then followed by the click open sound of the door.

"Yo Kurama," the raven-haired boy popped in with the gang. Each one of them was holding something - Yuusuke had a box of cookies; Kuwabara had a basket of fruit; Yukina had a big thermal bottle; and Keiko had a armful of fresh flowers, red roses to be exact.

He stood up, tried hard as hell not to fall when the blood rushed up and down around his whole body. He put on a faint smile.

"Hello." Eyeing the gifts he then said, "You guys really shouldn't have. It's not like he is going to eat any."

"Well, one of you will have to eat them," Yuusuke said as he followed the others to put the stuff down on the table on the other side of the room.

He knew what he meant by that. God knew who needed those supplement the most - an almost dead person, or a half dead person. Even without a mirror, he knew he looked like shit. Hell, he felt like one too. He hadn't slept well or eaten well ever since ..... Never mind. It felt like ages was all he wanted to say. Numbly, he fell back into his chair.

Yukina came by his side and handed him the cup of the thermal bottle. "Here, Drink some," she said softly. He took the cup gratefully, too tired to resist. "Thank you."

Yuusuke walked toward the end of the bed. "Still no progress huh?" Sipping the steaming herbal medicine tea, he shook his head sadly.

Yes, it was Hiei on that hospital bed all right. The blast had hit him from behind while his defence was low. The blow had damaged no other place except his head. That was why he had been in a coma for the last two months. Nobody, not even the doctors or Yukina, knew when he would be waking up. Maybe longer. Maybe never.

One of the hardest parts was to keep Hiei's jagan under cover. He had used so much memo-erase flower (flowers that can erase part of the memories) on doctors and the nurses around here that he was afraid that they might get allergic to it if no already. Moreover, he had to shield this room constantly so people wouldn't come in here often. All these actions drained his energy mercilessly.

"If this keeps up, I think we will have to send Hiei over to Mukuro. Maybe she could do something," Yuusuke suggested. But he only nodded slightly. It wasn't that he didn't trust Mukuro, it was just that Hiei couldn't really travel long. And who could predict that they would get there safely?

Nobody talked about it anymore. They started talking about what they had been doing since the graduation just took place. The atmosphere in the room was pretty awkward. Nobody knew exactly what to say. So it was only reasonable when the gang decided to leave and gave him the promise to come back again.

Yuusuke and Kuwabara were the last one to leave the room.

"Botan and Koenma have been searching for Hiei's soul out there. If he is dead, they'll find him. But if he is still trapped in that body ... " Yuusuke let the sentence hang.

Kurama nodded. "I understand. Thanks for telling me."

"Hey, no sweats."

"Yeah. You are the one who's been staying beside him. Don't know what that little shrimp did to deserve such a great service." Kuwabara said with sympathy.

He had to smile at that. "It's the least I could do for a friend."

"Yeah well, " Yuusuke sighed, "you take care. You look half dead already."

"I will take that as a compliment."

"Catch you later. Get some rest would ya?" Yuusuke nagged as he and Kuwabara headed out the door.

"I will try."

The fox closed the door quietly and walked to the washroom. Man, he did look like hell. Green eyes sunk in without the usual twinkle. Red silky hair now hang lifelessly around his face. And that face! looked so hollow as if he had been starved and abused. His whole person looked like he had been on drugs since he was five.

Strolling back to his old seat, Kurama took a look at the person buried among white sheets. Such colour doesn't suit him, he thought. And neither does this place. His eyes darted around the all-too-familiar room. Still, he couldn't get used to this place - all white and disgusting faded green. Everything about this room gave him the creeps.

He leaned forward and grabbed the fire demon's hand for the millionth time today.

"Hiei," he whispered as he put the hand near his lips, "please wake up. Wake up so we can leave this depressing place."

But, like many many many times before, there was no reaction, only the heartbeat testing machine's beeping made up for the silence. Though Hiei was released from intensive care a month ago, they were still not sure if the condition was stabilized. Some things you just never know.

Sighing, he glanced at the clock. It said 2:30. The sun was pouring its light into he room making him felt groggy. He felt so tired all of sudden. Maybe it was the depression. While still had the hold on his lover's hand, the red head lowered his head down to nest on his arm.
