Below was an E-mail message that the webmaster sent to the mailing list in August 1998: Subject: New Publication Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 05:09:25 -0400 From: jinyong@i.am To: "Mailing-List-@-http://i.am/jinyong"@server.com To all Jin Yong Fans, The webmaster of The Photo Gallery of Louis Cha @ http ://i.am/jinyong really appreciates your joining in this mailing list. The number of enrollment is now only 3. So you see how precious you are to me. O.K. Back to business. ** Watch out for the August issue of Ming Pao Monthly ** It reports the forum of "Jin Yong novels and the 20 century Chinese Literature" which is held by the Southeast Asia Literature Department of the University of Florida in May. The forum is attended by 26 scholars and writers from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, UK, Sweden, Japan, and Canada. Last but not least, Louis Cha also talks on the forum. The magazine covers the forum in 30 pages, plus a 6-page commentary on the English translation of "The Duke of the Mount Deer" by John Minford. The book only costs you HK$ 30.00 or NT$ 120.00. I think it is really a big deal. The articles are quite academic and full of text, with little picture. Their topics are: 1, Jin Yong's novels and the 20th century Chinese Literature 2, Jin Yong's novels enter the door of western literature 3, People wrangles over "The Duke of the Mount Deer" under the Mount Los Angeles 4, The revival of a remarkable writing tradition 5, Brief talk on "Jin Yong's novels and Hong Kong in the 50's" 6, 4 points to discuss with Mr Jin Yong 7, The role of Jin Yong's novels in the 20th century Chinese literature 8, Some points to consider in novel writing (composed by Jin Yong himself, as the closing speech of the forum) Forgive me for any bad translation. I bought one and I think you probably won't miss it. However, it might probably be difficult to acquire a copy outside Taiwan and Hong Kong. Thank you for your attention. Sunny So Webmaster @ The Photo Gallery of Louis Cha @ http://i.am/jinyong P.S. The webmaster is quite busy recently. Thus, you won't see anything new on the web site. |
