Ding-Dong Goes the Wedding Bells

At Yomi's place:

Kurama is sitting at his desk finishing some paperwork. As disciplined, as it was, Yomi's underlings were still quite incompetent compared to Yuusuke's and Mukuro's. It didn't help matters that Yomi was nowadays too 'busy' to handle the state affairs. Kurama leaned back and let out a sigh of relief as he put the last paper on the stack. 'Now I now how Koenma feels,' he thought sourly. Preparing to take a nap, he spun 180 degrees, shrieking when Yomi's too happy voiced boomed in his ears.

"Kurama, you're my best man!"

Kurama laid his ears flat back against his head. He couldn't have...nah. "At least you're paying attention to who's running your place in your absence. I'm glad you noticed."

Yomi froze for a moment. "Oh, yes in that sense as well. But I wasn't talking about that. I meant you're my best man at my WEDDING!" Yomi sat back smiling beatifically to himself.

Kurama's mind was in turmoil. 'I thought he was having a relationship with Yuusuke. He couldn't possibly mean...oh no. Nonononono!!!' Kurama frantically shook his head in denial as he croaked, "Who?"

Staring (in a sense) as if Kurama had grown another head, Yomi replied. "Yuusuke of course! Who else could there be? I asked him last night and he agreed to MARRY ME!" Singing loudly and off-key Yomi began to dance around the room. Kurama already in the state of shock managed to whisper 'congratulations' before passing out and sliding to the floor.

At Yuusuke's place:

"I'm getting married to Yomi. Handle the arrangements."

"Yes sir."

Yuusuke entered his chambers and collapsed onto his bed falling into a blissful slumber dreaming of his wedding night. For two minutes the entire palace was silent as the news broken and the servants collapsed. The only sounds that could be heard were Yuusuke's snoring and Raizen's loud 'Finally' ringing through the air. Activity resumed and arrangements were made.

At Mukuro's place:

"HIEI!!! GET HERE THIS INSTANT!!!" Hiei arrived to see Mukuro holding a red card in a death grip. He took it from her but did not look at it. Instead he listened to what Mukuro was ranting about.

"I can't believe it! I CAN'T believe it! How could they do something like that? Have they no sense of propriety at all? If they go through with this the Makai will never be the same! No wonder Raizen was in such high spirits! Argh! I need to kill someone!"

Hiei just raises an eyebrow in question. He still had not looked at the card.

"Yuusuke and Yomi you fool! Just read the card! It's unbelievable!"

Hiei looked at the red card in his hands. He opened it and read aloud, "You are cordially invited to attend the wedding of Yomi and Yuusuke!"

Mukuro had calmed down somewhat during the reading. "I know, it's a bit of a shock isn't it?"

**THUD**

"Hiei?"

Hiei regained consciousness to find Mukuro looking through a catalogue. "So Hiei, what should we give them?" (There's no way in hell Mukuro's gonna pay for it so she doesn't say 'buy for them'.)

"Hn. I'm Yuusuke's best man."

Somewhere in the Makai:

Yuusuke and Yomi are standing together with all their friends, still living family and acquaintances (such as Mukuro) in attendance. Yuusuke had reverted to his youkai form and looked stunning in his wedding robes, as did Yomi. Yukina was sniffing and saying 'how beautiful' with Kuwabara nodding his head. Hiei had tried to open the wedding gifts so many times that Mukuro finally threatened to make him the wedding couples concubine if he didn't remain where he was supposed to. Kurama stood at his position eyeing the crowd nervously. There was just too much chance for mischief today. It didn't help that Yuusuke and Hiei seemed to be sharing some secret. Raizen also looked too pleased.

After exchanging vows, the couple unlocked the gates to the food area. Everyone surged through not noticing a few hung back. Including the marriage couple. Yuusuke whispered something to Yomi who nodded then left with Hiei and Raizen. Yomi stepped forward and took charge, "Okay everyone. Let's play a game."

When a laughing Yomi had finally calmed down, Yuusuke and Yomi went off to consummate their marriage again. Kurama shook his head and prepared some tea for the surviv..er, I mean remaining guests. This only consisted of Mukuro, Hiei, and a smirking Raizen. The moment Yuusuke and Yomi left Mukuro let her temper out.

"Ok Raizen, spill the damn beans already! What's got you looking like that? I'm so pissed at you! How could you not tell me they were going together? I had to find out through an invitation to their wedding! What's more, your ahem...joyous reaction woke me up in the middle of the bloody night! Some of us need to sleep you know!"

"Feh! Mukuro no amount of sleep will improve either your temper or your face so why bother? Besides I can celebrate anyway I want. This will teach you to try to spy on me. Since you're so rude, I shan't tell you my secret. You'll have to find out when the times comes."

"Some tea anyone? No Hiei I'm not letting you near the sake. No, not even one glass. Hiei come back here! Hiei!" Kurama left the steaming cups of tea to drag the sake bottle away from Hiei. "Honestly, have you no control at all?"

Hiei blinked at him owlishly for a moment then slithered bonelessly to the floor, fast asleep. Kurama stared for a moment then took a long swig from the bottle before dragging the unconscious Hiei back to where Mukuro was still screeching like a housewife at Raizen. He brought the bottle along with him. He was going to need it.

Two months later:

Yomi grumbled and glanced out the window for the third time in five minutes. Yuusuke had left stating that he needed to check on something refusing to state what. All he had said was that he would be back by evening. Now Yomi was slowly driving Kurama mad. He tried to ignore Yomi as the youkai shifted and sighed and paced waiting for his spouse to return. He resisted the urge to give Yuusuke a hug when he returned. Yomi didn't take well to others showing affection of any sort for Yuusuke.

"Where have you been, koibito? Whatever you found it must be good if your face is any indication."

Yuusuke laughed inwardly as he thought over what he was going to tell Yomi. "I think the both of you should sit down first." He didn't want his spouse and best friend cracking their heads on furniture when they found out. Closing the door and leaning casually against it, he asked Yomi casually, "Before I start I want to know something. Yomi have you ever thought of having children?"

Yomi twitched his ears in surprise while Kurama listened suspiciously. "I...I never really gave it much thought but yes, if I could I would have loved to have some children of my own." Yomi now looked at Yuusuke expectantly for his explanation.

"Your wish is my command! I'm so glad it worked out!" Yuusuke exclaimed enigmatically.

"What are you talking about Yuusuke?" Kurama and Yomi were on tenterhooks as they waited the answer.

"I'm pregnant!"

"Oh my GOD!" "That is not Possible!"

**Thud** **Thump**

"Yeesh, they are so easily shocked."

The two of them clawed their way back into consciousness to find Yuusuke chatting amiably with Hiei. Noticing their return to the waking world they broke off abruptly while Yuusuke had a huge smile plastered on his face and Hiei had what could only be called a self-satisfied smirk on his. Yomi beat Kurama to the punch and ground out, "Yuusuke, could you please explain yourself."

"Sure. You see it goes something like this. About two generations before Raizen came along, he had another ancestor who married a Koorime. The child who was born after that disappeared without a trace. Now, it seems that this ancestor was capable of producing kids but since he preferred females he never utilized his gift. When it finally came to Raizen, this particular aspect of our lineage had been forgotten. So when I asked Hiei to be my best man he pointed out to me that he could sense Koorime blood in me. We told Raizen and began to do some researching. Although I can carry children, the symptoms differ from the Koorime. After we got married, I woke up with a pain in abdomen last night. A sure sign I'm pregnant." Yuusuke stopped and breathed deeply waiting for his lovers' reaction.

Yomi sat there gaping while Kurama just shook his head and stared at the floor. After a while, Yomi walked over to Yuusuke and kissed him passionately. "Well," he said huskily, "what do we name it?"

4 months later:

"No Yuusuke. You can't go out in your condition. It's not safe considering how close you are to delivering." Yuusuke ground his teeth in frustration. Ever since he had told Yomi he was carrying, his lover had kept him a near prisoner in their home. He only got to go out when Kurama, Hiei or Yomi were with him. Luckily, their new home was right on the border between their two lands so Yuusuke could still run his land. Although, Yomi did have an irritating habit of popping in every ten minutes to tell Yuusuke not to over exert himself. An unusual aspect of the pregnancy was that although Yuusuke ate double his physical appearance never changed. He remained the way he was.

He gave in gracefully, knowing that this was true though. It was dangerous for him to travel now that he would be delivering soon. He didn't know how soon "Uuuhhh, Yomi! Help me to the bed quick! It's time!" Yuusuke groaned as pain coursed through his body. Yomi leaped to his feet and quickly carried him to the bed. "Go get Hiei NOW!"

Yomi burst into Hiei chambers. Hiei arrived 2 days ago at Yuusuke's request to midwife the birth. One look at the disheveled Yomi told him all he needed to know. "I'll go to him. You stay with Kurama." Hiei then disappeared leaving a dazed and confused Yomi to look for Kurama.

Kurama sat and waited as tense as Yomi. Perhaps a little unwisely, they had chosen to stay in the room next door. They didn't know which was worse, the screams or the silence that followed. "How long could it be? It's been hours!" Yomi paced about muttering to himself. Kurama checked his watch. It had only been 15 minutes. Yomi suddenly grabbed Kurama and slammed him against the wall. "Why is it taking so long!" Kurama was rescued by the cry of a newborn. Yomi dropped Kurama with a thud.

"Oof!" Kurama picked himself up swearing under his breath and followed Yomi into the room as Hiei opened the door. Yuusuke lay in bed drenched in sweat while cradling the child in his arms. As they peered at the child in wonder, it revealed a fair face with much resemblance to Yomi and pale crystal blue eyes. Yomi reached out a shaking hand and touched his child in wonder. "What is his name?"

Yomi and Yuusuke had discussed this and had agreed beforehand. "His name is Hajime." The four of them stayed together and reveled in a rare moment of companionship. "Yes, that is a good name," said Hiei.

Hajime, a new beginning.
