Dr. Ong Jin Teong is an Associate Professor in the school of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Nanyang Technological Institute , Singapore . He was the head of the Division of Electronic Engineering from April 1985 to April 1991. Previously, he was a Senior Consultant with Cable and Wireless PLC. London , where he investigated key problems in all areas of Telecommunication Transmission providing expert advice to the C & W group. He obtained a first class honours BSc (Electrical Engineering) degree from London University , an MSc in Microwave Engineering from University College, London and a Phd and DIC from Imperial College, London . He is a member of the IEE and a Chartered Engineer.

He joined Cable and Wireless in 1971, progressing from an Assistant Engineer to Radio Systems Engineer to Manager, Radio Propagation studies and later, Senior Consultant. He has been involved as a consultant, mangager and engineer in the planning and commmissioning of various telecommunication Engineering Systems all over the world. These include all types of terrestrial point to point radio systems, satellite, broadcasting (radio and television), mobile and mobile cellular and VHF air-to-ground radio systems and problems associated with antennas and propagation, electromagnetic compatibility/interference (emc/rfi) and frequency coordination.

He is currently working on R&D in Terrestrial Microwave propagation (rain attenuation & multipath fading), Earth-space Satellite Propagation, Mobile Radio Propagation modelling & Performance, wireless LAN, Electronic Road Pricing System, Radio Frequency Spectrum Management.

He represented C & W and UK at international meetings of CCIR Study Group 5 in Geneva in 1977, 1980 and 1983. He also participated in work of CCIR Study Group 4/9.

• Consultancy for Design of Airborne Highspeed Radio Link.
• Consultancy for Singapore's Electronic Road Pricing System Demonstration Project.
• MRTC Boon Lay EMI Consultancy.
• Conducted courses in Electromganetic Compatibility and Interference (EMC/I), R.F. Design and in Radio Systems Engineering for companies in Singapore & Malaysia (ATT Consumer Product Pte. Ltd, SEEL, Motorola IVP, TCE etc.).
• Mercury communications Ltd's UK Radio Network: Provided consultant's advice on radio propagation, frequency planning and systems desigh for the point to multi-point microwave system.
• Advised Cable and Wireless Plc on Licence Application for Cellular Mobile Radio Operations in UK and Hong Kong.
• North Yeman Tropospheric Scatter Network: survey and evaluation of an existing system including discussion with manufacturer.
• Saudi Arabia National Guard Communications Network - involving surveys, planning, specification and performance evaluation of HF/LOS/Tropospheric scatter/Mobile Radio Systems.
• Communication System between Saudi Arabia and Sudan (including Microwave System across the Red Sea - longest microwave link in the world).
• Kuwait Navy Communication.
• Omani Government Microwave System.
• Hong Kong TV Broadcast Survey (1972-1973) and Hong Kong Police Mobile Network Sutdies (1974): Area coverage predictions and frequency planning/interference studies.

PARTICULAR INTEREST

• Investigation of problems in all areas of Telecommunication Transmission including Antenna & Radio Propagation problems.
• Planning, engineering and commissioning of Radio Systems - h.f., line-of-sight, mobile, tropospheric scatter, TV and sound broadcasting, mobile and air to ground VHF radio systems. Liaison with customers and contractors.
• Investigation of various problems in RFI/EMC/EMP (specifically radio frequency planning and interference analysis) and problems associated with biological radiation hazards and ignitioin hazards of flammable gases.
• Mobile Cellular Radio Systems.
• Performance/Propagation Monitoring and Datalogging.
