Undoubtedly the most formidable fighter of it's time. The Phantom arrived in Israel at the height of the War Of Attrition, IAF crews mastered it's sophisticated weapons systems under fire, immediately striking enemy defenses along the Suez Canal and downing MiGs including those piloted by Russian "Advisors". The Phantom was "The Aircraft" of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, hitting strategic targets deep inside enemy territory such as the Syrian general headquarters in downtown Damascus. In 1982 Phantoms helped demolish Syria's over lapping surface-to-air missile (SAM) network in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. Over the years this Jack-Of-All-Trades produced many aces! IAF Phantoms have shot down
over 100 enemy aircrafts. The Phantom 2000 upgrade program at IAI will keep this versatile veteran flying into the next century..
