53. COMBACK
An old friend of Rob's turns up in town, Duncan Jones, but Rob is away at the moment. It is the annual horse race in town again. At first none of the McGregor's are competing in the race, some boys tease Josh about this, but then Matt decides to go in the race again which was made famous by him years ago. The people in the town think he is too old to do it now, but they are proved wrong when he wins.

54. THE GRAND OPENING
Miss Kirov who owns the general store open a Russian Tea Room at the back of the store. The McGregor's are losing cattle, Duncan tries to find out why and also wants to prove himself that he can do something. The man running the hotel wants people to eat there and not the Russian Tea Room so he half his prices, when Duncan finally catches the man responsible for the missing cattle it turns out to be the hotel owner, he was killing the cows to use the meat for meals at the hotel. A new housekeeper started at Langara, but it doesn't work out and she ends up leaving, at one point Josh scares her with a frog.

55. BLACK SHEEP
A woman with a past arrives in town to take over the running of the Railway Hotel, he name is Jessie McClusky. Poeple in the town don't like her and want her to leave. Emily epecially seems to have something against her. Emily and Colin end up having a long talk in their unfinished house. Colin can't understand what Emily is going on about and what the problem is, but later on Emily tells Colin that Jessie McClusky is her mother and she doesn't want anything to do with her. Also, Duncan has been having nightmares, the truth comes out about happened before he turned up.

56. PRINCE OF HEARTS
2 spanish entertainers turn up in town, they do their act at the Railway Hotel. There are robberies happening around town of jewelery, people think the entertainers are doing the robberies. Danni becomes friendly with one of them, he gives her a broach which turns out to be stolen. Matt and Colin investigate the robberies and end up catching the men responsible and it wasn't the entertainers. Jessie tries to talk to Emily but she still deosn't want to know her.

57. THE GRAND DUKE
A woman called Nell sells Matt a bull called "The Grand Duke." Colin and Emily move into their new house, Jessie gives Emily a music box which used to be her grandmothers, but Emily still doesn't want to talk to Jessie. The bull goes missing, Matt and Duncan find a bull which looks like The Grand Duke dead, but it turns out to be a different bull. It turns out Nell had take him and was going to take him on the train to her brother.

58. NEW BUSINESS
Rob returns after being away for a few months, but Duncan has now left. The man managing the stable since the owner left town is treating the horses badly and charging customers more. There is an auction for the stables, the man wants to buy it, but Rob decides he wants to buy it aswell. Rob can't buy alone and asks Colin, but Colin is against the idea at first, but changes his mind at the last minute during the auction after seeing the state of the horses at the stable. So, now Colin and Rob are the new owners of the stables.

59. FOUNDATION DAY
The town is celebrating Foundation Day and having stalls and games around town. There is a wild dog on the loose, a man, Henry Wagner, has come to the town to catch it. Henry and Danni arrange to meet, but Danni is alone at Langara and falls and breaks her ankle. The wild dog get into Langara and gets inside and is near where Danni is but she can't get up. Henry is worried as she hasn't turned up and goes to Matt and they both go to look for her, they get to Langara and catch the dog. Meanwhile, Rob asks Montana to marry him, she says yes, but then she gets news that her younger sister is very ill, and she has to leave to go back to America. Emily helps out at the hotel and finally decides to talk to Jessie and give her a chance.

60. THE LOVERS
A man - Damien Winters, and a mysterious woman in black turn up in town, the man used to know Jessie - they were lovers, she left Emily and her father to be with him. Damien is dying and wanted to see Jessie again before he died. Also Emily learns of how much Jessie has always loved her. Meanwhile, a girl and her boyfriend are lost up in the mountains where it is icy and very cold, her father, Matt and Colin go looking for them. They find her boyfriend first, but they have to wait until the next morning to look for her, they find her in a cave but at first they think she is dead, but when her boyfriend kisses her lips she wakes up.

61. THE CLAIMANT
Colin, Emily and Josh are on a picnic when a man appears saying he is Dave Turner, Josh's uncle and wants to take Josh back home with him and his family. Colin and Emily are obviously upset as they love him as if he was their own son and don't want to lose him. Josh is confused about who he wants to live with, and thinks that because Emily is pregnant they won't want him anymore, so he runs away, Matt and Jessie find him. The truth comes out to why Dave Turner really wants Josh, and Colin and Emily are able to keep him. They have Josh's surname officially changed to McGregor.

62. THE LOADED DECK
Victoria Blackwood arrives back in town, she finds out Frank has gone off with all the profits from the sell of their property and she has nothing left. Rob is delighted to see her again, and he asks her to marry him, she turns him down, she ends up getting a job at the hotel. Meanwhile, there is a professional gambler in town who is running a table at the hotel. Colin questions Rob about the accounts for the stables. Rob gets into gambling and puts up the stables and looses it, so the man is now Colin's partner. Colin and the others can't believe what Rob has done. But, it later comes out that the cards he used was marked and the man cheated, so Rob ends up getting his half of the stables back.

63. DIFFICULT TIMES
Colin and Rob are having financial problems with the stables and are 2 months behind on the bank loan. A man hires 10 horses for a week, but the cheque he has paid them with is no good, Colin and Rob go looking for him, Colin finds him. Victoria is also having financial problems, and after turning down a marriage proposal from Herbert Elliott decides to leave town. It is Matt's birthday, the family have bought him a new sadle.

64. A SON FOR A SON - PART ONE
The men of the Morrell family turn up in Patterson's Ridge to settle an old score with Matt, but Matt has gone to Blane's Ravene. The father of the Morrell's want to have a duel fight with either Colin or Rob otherwise he will burn the town done. They are stopping people getting in and out of the town. Meanwhile, Emily is coming back from visiting friends, the wheel comes off the wagon and she ends up falling down a hill, she finds a cabin and goes inside, then a woman comes in and points a gun a her and won't let her go. Rob tries to get to Matt but is beaten up and can't see properly so Colin goes to tell the father that he will do the duel.

65. A SON FOR A SON - PART TWO
Matt comes across the wagon that Emily was on, and then finds the cabin Emily is in, the woman keeps them both there. A policeman is looking for the woman who's name is Nancy, and finds her at the cabin, he is actually a good friend of hers. Emily goes in labour and gives birth in the cabin. Meanwhile Colin is getting ready to do the duel, Rob says he should be the one to do it, but Colin won't let him, he writes a letter to Emily in case he doesn't make it. In the duel Colin is shot in the leg, he makes a shot at the father but misses, but Jessie shoots aswell and her shot injures the father so it is all over and the Morrells leave. Nancy lets Emily and Matt go, and Colin gets to see his baby daughter, they name her Kathleen.
