The Right Thing

Disclaimer- I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They belong
to 20th Century Fox, Joss Whedon, and Mutant Enemy. I am using them without permission,
however I am not making any money off them so please do not sue me.
Author's Notes- Okay, this is an oddity for me. A fic where Xander’s the good guy,
he does the right thing. Xander doing something selfless? I’m awash in a sea of confusion,
to quote Cordelia. Anyway, this is a *very* Short little piece that takes place after
Angel, Xander convinces Buffy to see if she can make it work with Angel. Totally
not Xander, but I decided to pretend.
Feedback: Please! I live off the stuff.
Distribution: Ask me first, but I’ll usually say yes.
Rating: PG
Classification: Mild Buffy/Angel, Xander as a good guy, reflective piece.
Spoilers: Angel, the episode not the show.
She left, wishing she could stay. She walked out of The Bronze, and tried to make
her way home. Her eyes blinded by tears.
“Buffy!”
She turned around when she heard Xander call her name. “Hi Xand.” She mumbled, accepting
his hug of condolence.
“You really love him.” It wasn’t a question, but she answered all the same.
“Yes.” She said quietly, not wanting to think about it.
“Then, I’m sorry. I know this must be hard on you.” Xander said, Buffy was about
to say something when she saw somebody come out of The Bronze.
Angel.
Xander saw the way she watched him. “Go to him.” He urged her. “I know he’s a vampire,
and you’re the slayer. But he’s not a bad guy to have around, I mean that girl would
have killed you, possibly all of us, if he hadn’t been there. If you love him, maybe
you can make itwork.
“You’re telling me to hook up with another guy?” Buffy asked in disbelief.
Xander smiled. “Yeah, I know. I’ll probably regret tomorrow, Hell I’ll probably regret
it ten minutes, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Buffy nodded, and ran after Angel. Xander watched as they talked, then after a minute
Angel leaned down and kissed her.
As he watched Xander felt his heart break. He was never going to get Buffy, he finally
accepted that. She loved Angel, possible always would. He had done the right thing
by sending her to him instead of being jealous and keeping them apart.
No, at least this way Buffy was happy that was the most important thing.
