All That Matters Is Today
By Michelle McKague
Disclaimer- Not mine, Buffy, Angel , Cordelia, and Whistler belong to Joss Whedon,
The WB, Mutant Enemy, and 29th Century Fox. The Song Uninvited is by Alanis Morisette,
I don’t own it either. I do own Christa though, she’s all mine.
Author’s Notes- Sequel to Phone Calls and Heartbreak. Set in the same time line as
my series, but a not part of the series. For Serena, who suggested I write a story
where Buffy met Christa.
Spoilers- Amends and back, some mild ones for the spinoff Angel.
Summery- Buffy goes to L.A and make things up with Angel.
“This has got to stop!” Cordelia Chase screamed at her boyfriend Whistler as she
glared at the couple in the next room. The friendly demon winced at his girlfriend’s
loud pitch. “I don’t like it any more than you do, but what can we do about it?”
Cordelia grinned. “Bring Buffy to L.A.” Whistler winced again, “Are you sure that’s
a good idea?” Cordelia shrugged.
“It’s the best one I’ve got, come on you can’t think that she’s better for him!”
“You’re right, but it’s his choice.”
Cordelia just looked at him until he gave in and passed her his cell phone. She grinned
triumphantly, she could talk him in to doing anything. Even change his dressing style,
now he had some class. She dialed the number of one of her closest friends and within
minutes the two girls had a plan worked out.

Angel tried to listen as his girlfriend Christa talked about their plans for that
weekend, but his mind was on other things. Like Buffy Summers. He thought about Buffy,
the one woman he would ever love, whom he had completely blown it with.
“Angel? Angel? Angel?!” Angel snapped out of it when he heard Christa calling him.
“Sorry my mind was on other things-”
“Like maybe me?” Asked a feminine voice that Angel knew and loved. Buffy. She was
standing there looking at him with a big smile. What was she doing here? Then he
saw Cordelia standing beside her.
That bitch. He knew she disliked Christa but he never imagined she would stoop to
bringing Buffy in. And Whistler, Angel just glared at his friend who mouthed. “She
made me.” Angel could believe that, but right now he had a bigger problem on his
hands, such as Buffy.
“Angel aren’t you going to introduce us?” Buffy asked sweetly.
“S-su-sure. Christa, this is a long time FRIEND of mine, Buffy Summers.” The two
women shook hands , and Angel winced at the hurt look Christa gave him. She obviously
knew who Buffy REALLY was, no doubt he had Cordelia to thank for that. “Buffy, this
is Christa, my girlfriend.”
Buffy smiled thinly at the woman, Christa not wanting to fight with the slayer excused
herself. Then Cordelia dragged Whistler out of the room, leaving Buffy and Angel
to talk.

“Angel, do you really like her?” Buffy asked quietly, the confident look she had
worn all night wearing off.
“Yes, no, I don’t know.”
“It’s a simple question. Yes, I go back to Sunnydale as soon as possible. No,
I have something for you.”
Angel turned away from her and thought about it for a while, finally he had come
to his answer. He looked Buffy in the eye. “No. I do care about her, but not the
way I care about you.” Buffy squealed with delight then threw herself into Angel’s
arms, he just held her a few minutes. “What’ do you have for me.”
Buffy grinned. “Whistler!” She yelled, “uh, yeah?” The short little demon asked.
“He picked me.” Whistler gave her a ‘duh’ look. Cordelia came in a minute later,
and didn’t need to be filled in.
She handed Whistler a piece of paper, and drew a circle on the floor with white chalk.
She, Buffy, and Whistler spent the next few minutes setting up while Angel watched
in confusion. “A spell to make you like Whistler, nice, semi-human, and immortal.”
Buffy told him quietly, Angel looked at her happier than he had been since the night
of her 17th birthday.
It took five minutes, and then they were done. Cordelia and Whistler left them alone
to share some much deserved quality time.

Early the next morning, after they had finished everything else, they were just snuggling.
Something they hadn’t got to do the first time around.
“Um, Angel? What are you going to do about Christa?” Buffy asked concerned, the other
women had seemed nice enough. “I’ll call her later and break the news to her in person.”
“Do it now, I’ll go chat with Cordy.” Buffy said, getting out of bed and quickly
getting dressed.
Angel sighed as he watched her go and then he dialled Christa’s number.

“Honey what’s wrong?” Christa asked as soon as she saw him. Angel motioned fro her
to sit down.
“Chris, I don’t know how to tell you this.....” He proceeded to tell her about what
had happened. She nodded,
“Angel, I knew you still loved her. I guess I just hoped that you were over her.”
She kissed his cheek. “I can see
that you’re not, Bye.” She said before leaving.
Angel shook his head and then called to Whistler. With his friend’s help Angel prepared
for a night Buffy would never forget.

“Angel?” Buffy asked hesitantly as she walked out on to his terrace, it looked beautiful.
“Right here.” She smiled at him, and then looked around.
Now she understood why he had insisted on her borrowing a dress from Cordelia, he
had intended to make this night special. He was doing well.
“May I have this dance?” Angel asked as he snapped his fingers and music came one,
Buffy nodded. He snapped again and Alanis Morrisette’s Uninvited came on. Buffy rested
her head on Angel’s shoulder and the two swayed
silently in time to the music.
Like anyone would be
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave
But you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Angel ran his fingers through Buffy hair, he couldn’t believe this was happening.
They were together, nothing could tear them apart now.
Must be strangely exciting
To watch the stoic squirm
Must be somewhat hard telling
To watch them burn me Sheppard
But you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Buffy closed her eyes, just content to be in Angel’s arms. Tomorrow she had to go
back to Sunnydale, but only for a few months then she’d go to UCLA. But that was
tomorrow, tonight was what mattered.
Like any uncharted territory
I must seem greatly intriguing
You speak of my love like
You have experienced like mine before
But this is not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Angel whispered in Buffy’s ear. “I love you.” Buffy opened her eyes and smiled up
at him, “I love you.” She lifted her head up and their lips met in a sweet kiss.
I don't think you unworthy
I need a moment to deliberate
Cordelia and Whistler watched the two from the window. “Told you, I was doing the
right thing,” Cordelia gloated to her honey.
“Cordelia, please shut up,” Whistler begged his girlfriend, she complied leaning
up against her immortal boyfriend, resuming her watch on their friends.
It was moments like this that made everything worthwhile. Who knew what would happen
to tomorrow, all that mattered was today.
The End
