She was tired of living wanted the mouth of hell to swallow her whole. Without him
she was nothing. She felt like a hallow shell, a useless thing on the earth to take
up space and put people's lives in danger. As Buffy Summers walked through the cemetery
she thought of him, only of him. Her Angel, her own "guardian angel". She
had loved him and given herself to him in more ways than one. Then when she had him
and he was vulnerable she killed him. He was her only love and she killed him.
Buffy sat down on a gravestone, one that "they" had sat, and made out,
on many times before. Maybe it was her thoughts of him that had her distracted. Or
it could have been her desire to be away that had her not paying attention to the
three vampires who were closing their circle around her. She only noticed them after
a fist solidly connected to the back of her head.
Buffy let her slayer instincts take over her body and managed to dust off the first
two with ease. *Why am I fighting? I don't want to live I'm tired of living. I just
want to die.* With this thought she walked up to the stunned vampire and offered
him her neck.

Angel was suffering in hell, literally. It had been hundreds of years at least since
Buffy had sent him here. He knew why she did it and he was proud of her. She did
what she had to do and was able to put her feelings for him aside for one moment.
He admired her for that, it made him love her even more. If he could go to a heaven
without Buffy or stay in this place of torture he would stay. He would stay, it would
hurt him more to know that Buffy could never share his heaven than any other torture
that could be inflicted upon him here.
It was the first time he was left alone long enough, since he arrived in this place,
to truly think. It was also the first time he allowed himself to cry.
When his eyes cleared he looked around himself and released he was no longer in hell.
In fact he was in the Sunnydale cemetery where…where Buffy was dying. Withstanding
the pain he felt in his legs, Angel grabbed the stake Buffy had dropped and plunged
it into the heart of the vampire that was draining her vibrant life away.
Without the vampire there to hold her up Buffy promptly fell to the ground. "Angel?
Is that you?"
More tears welled up in his eyes. "I'm here Buffy don't worry."
"Angel, change me. You can take me to the library have Giles curse me. It can
work."
Angel couldn't believe what she was asking him to do. But in all she was right it
could work. "Are you sure Buffy." She nodded her head weekly. "I love
you." He lowered his head to her neck and drank a small amount of her blood
before cutting his own wrist and bringing it to her mouth. Buffy looked at the bleeding
wrist in front of her, disgusted with herself and what she was about to do. Slowly
she brought her lips to his wrist and drank the blood from it.
Angel picked Buffy up as soon as she was done. She had stayed awake unlike the others
he had changed over the years. *She is the strongest slayer I've ever known. That
says a lot having killed 3 of them.* "You're still awake."
"I'm tough, what can I say."
"Try to sleep. Trust me when I say that changing is not something you want to
be awake for."
Slowly she looked up at him when they reached the school. "You were awake?"
"I was on your birthday."
"I'm sorry."
"You gave me something I've never had before Buffy. You have nothing to be sorry
for." Angel pushed open the doors to the library to find Giles and Willow sitting
at the table researching the latest prophecy on the Hellmouth.
"Dear God what happened? Angel you're back, how?" Giles said being the
first one to recover from the state of shock.
"That doesn't matter what matters is Buffy."
Turning to look at Giles Buffy spoke up. "Giles long story, Angel cage quick."
Angel walked over to the cage locking the two of them inside. "Angel what are
you doing? I'm gonna kill you."
"Not if I think I'm right."
"What do you mean?"
"Trust me."
"Always."
"Giles, Willow set up the spell just in case." Angel cradled Buffy against
his chest waiting for the change to happen.
An hour later Buffy screamed. She screamed three times before she managed to hold
it back. She dug her nails into Angel's arm, drawing blood, as tears poured down
her face Angel had made Willow and Giles leave saying he would call if they were
needed.
An hour later Buffy clamed down and held on to Angel like a lifeline which in a way
he was. "Did I change?" Her eyes were still red from crying as she looked
up at him.
"Yes."
"But the demon, my soul?"
"A demon can't take a slayer's soul unless the slayer is changed by a master."
Looking away from her he continued "You were too strong for the demon to win."
"So I'm a vampire with a soul? Like you."
"Without a curse."
"Ms. Callendar changed it before Willow cast it last time. You don't have a
curse Angel." With a large smile on her face she continued, "You can get
a happy!" Before growing serious again.
"I'm already happy."
"So am I."
