If this doesn't work this time I'm taking a friggin hiatus
Shani-who's been trying to post for over an hour.
Dara walked into her office, slamming the door behind her. "Damn it!"
"Bad day?" Justus asked.
"What do you want?" she grumbled as she went to her desk.
"Brenda needs your help." Jax answered.
"Someone's trying to set me up for Miranda Jameson's murder."
"Normally we'd keep this information to ourselves. But you owe us." Jax
added.
"I owe you?"
"Do the words *summer from hell* mean anything to you?" he stated
simply.
Dara sighed. She looked at Justus, Jax and back at Brenda. "I can't help
you."
Jax got up. "I knew this was a waste of time."
"I'm off the case." when Dara added this Jax sat down. "It seems that my
judgement has obviously been clouded..." she tapped a pen against her desk
"since..I think that our main suspect is being framed or the dumbest person
on the face of the earth. The evidence is too clear-especially considering
we had no leads a week ago."
"Where does that leave.." Brenda began
"Your main suspect." Justus finished.
"I can't tell you that."
"Hypothetically speaking of course."
Dara narrowed her eyes. After a minute she said "Hypothtically I would think
said subject would think about who has a big burden against him...or her."
Dara stated looking right at Brenda so that everyone knew who the suspect
was. "Then I would tell him or her to gather up some counter information,
before an arrest......which hypothetically could be in a day or 2. Then,
I would tell this person to keep the information hidden because whoever is
setting her..."
"Or him." Jax, Brenda and Justus all said in unison.
"Or him up is proabably very powerful and power can buy I lot of things.
Hypothetically."
Brenda, Justus and Jax got up and headed for the door. As Brenda was closing
the door behind her she smiled and said "Thank you."
"What am I going to do?" Brenda moaned as Jax brought over her hot
chocolate.
"You are going to go about your business because we our working on it. I
have every available resource on this Brenda. It will be over soon."
"I'm not going to have to go into hiding am I?" she managed to joke. "Why
did I threaten Nikolas" she added, mostly to herself.
"Because he threatend me. But you really should stop. If you walked around
saying you were going to kill everyone who states they want me dead, you'd
have no time for anything else."
"That's not funny Jax."
"I'm not trying to be....but it is kind of flattering." he added with a dazzling
smile
Making Brenda's heart melt. She sighed. Things would be okay. She didn't
kill Miranda. Justus was the best lawyer in town. And Jax had every available
resource on it. "Things will be okay. Is their any new information?"
"You know everything I know." he answered honestly. "Why don't you get some
sleep...you look like hell."
"Thanks." she said and laughed. "Want to join me?"
"That would defeat the purpose wouldn't it?"
Brenda pouted for a minute and then headed upstairs.
Jax hung up the phone and went to the door. "What?"
"Can I come in?"
He stepped aside and Mac walked in. "How long have you know about Jerry and
Miranda."
"Next question."
"Fine. How did you feel about it?"
"Strike two."
"Felicia and I have been doing some investigating. There are a lot of suspects.
Jerry. Your parents. Sonny. Stefan and the rest of the clan. Jason. Even
Katherine. Oh. And you." Mac looked for some sort of reaction-either in words
or gestures-but Jax was surprisingly low key. "Been hanging out with Jason?
You guys are picking up the same facial expressions."
"He's my idol. So why are you telling me this?"
"Because something isn't right. Of course that's not going to stop me from
going to the police with the information and pushing them towards you. I
thought since we were once friends..."
Jax raised an eyebrow.
"Associates, that you had a right to know."
"I'm touched. Really. Anything else?"
"Well, I do have other motives. See I figure that this would put the pressure
on you to find Miranda's killer because you wouldn't want to be falsely accused.
I mean you do have more resources. Then again if it is you, you'll pay. Either
way Miranda's killer will pay and I can continue my life Don't disappoint
me." Mac added and left.
Dara said that Brenda was the prime suspect-which they had already figured
out. But the only name Mac didn't mention was Brenda and if his intent, as
Jax was sure it was, was to make him find Miranda's killer, dropping Brenda's
name would have been the perfect bait.
Mac was right. Something was wrong.
Jax's thought process was interrupted by a knock. "Forget something?" he
asked before opening the door. "Great. It's my lucky day."
Jerry pushed his way past. "Have you *completely* lost all of your
senses?!"
Jax slamed the door, forgetting that Brenda was upstairs trying to sleep.
Hearing the ruckus she left the bedroom and came downstairs.
"What the hell is your problem?!"
"How's this...you cost us a 10 million dollar deal! Because of HER" Jerry
added, pointing at Brenda who was standing near the bar.
"What? What in hell are you talking about?"
"Now I know that really is a drop in the bucket compared to what we have
but that Lancaster deal took me forever to get set up and because you were
so focused on Brenda and her never ending problems it was stolen right from
under us.":
"By who?" Jax asked, obviously stunnded.
Jerry looked at Brenda and she knew what he wanted. "I'm going back to
bed."
"This is OUR house Brenda. Jerry is the intruder."
"It's okay." she said with a smile and left.
"She's going to be the ruin of you."
Jax maintained his control. "Who stole it?" he asked again.
"The Cassadines. Now, you had bloody well pay attention Jax. I won't tolerate
a slip up like that again."
"Duly noted. Get out."
Jerry looked at Jax one last time and left.
The Cassadines. Jax grew angry at his stupidity. He had figured they were
up to something, but he wasn't expecting this.
But he was expecting everything now.
And they were going to pay.
