**Getting To The Truth**
Chapter 26
"Ummmmm" Libby groaned in delight as she licked the honey from her fingers.
Jerry watched her from the doorway as she dipped her finger back into the small jar of honey and licked the gooey substance from her fingers. Her head was thrown back in ecstasy as sweetness slid down her throat. She was standing in the darkened kitchen, only the light from the open refrigerator softly outlining her in darkness. He stared at her slim figure highlighted through the thin nightgown that she wore.
His chest tightened and his body hardened at the sight. Would he ever get tired of looking at her? The answer to that was a simple "No". She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen and ever would see. And she was his.
He walked silently towards her and startled her as he slipped his arms around
her even as she turned to him. But before she could say anything, he put
his finger over her mouth. Her eyes widened as she watched him reach into
the jar of honey. When he drew his finger back it was covered with honey
and she watched helplessly as he slowly lifted his finger back to her mouth,
gently tapping her mouth, leaving dabs of honey on her lips. Libby opened
her mouth slightly and he sensuously put his honey coated finger in her mouth
and watched as she slowly closed her mouth and sucked the sweetness from
his finger. Jerry slowly pulled his finger from her mouth. His hand cupped
her face as his thumb stroked her lips. He gently lowered his lips to hers
and drank from the sweetness therein. He pulled slightly back and smiled
as he took in her swollen lips. He dipped his finger into the honey again
as he began to kiss her neck, heading towards her shoulder. He pulled the
straps of her negligee from her shoulder as he dribbled honey onto her shoulder
and neck and proceeded to lick and kiss the sticky sweetness from her skin.
Libby groaned as her hands went up to his head and into the thickness of
his hair, pulling him closer into her body. Jerry pushed the other shoulder
strap off her shoulder and looked at the beauty before him as the negligee
fell softly to the floor. His lips followed the negligee down her body, kissing
every inch of the skin it revealed. Libby moaned as his kisses turned more
heated as his lips made their journey down her body. Her knees buckled as
she sank to the floor with him. Jerry laid her back on the silk that now
covered the
floor.

Detective Mel Langley pushed the dangling hairs from her face as she opened
the door to the interrogation room. She nodded at the lawyer that was seated
next to his client, Mr. Wayne Ables. She threw some files down on the table
as she pulled out a chair. Taking her time, she made herself comfortable
in the hard chair, picked up a pen and made a squiggly line on her notepad
as she tested the inkflow in her pen. Wayne Ables shifted nervously in his
seat as he waited for her to get on with the interrogation. But she wasn't
finished. She then carefully opened several files and began to read them
as if she had never seen them before. As she continued to ignore him, new
beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. And just as he went to wipe the
sweat away, she looked up at him. He quickly put his handkerchief away.
Mel cleared her throat as if getting ready to speak, but instead looked again at the file in her hand. After a few more excruciating minutes, she finally put the file down and began.
"So Mr. Ables, where should we begin?" she asked.
The question took Ables by surprise and he could do no better than to stare at her. When he didn't speak, Mel said, "Hmmmm, I see you are leaving it up to me to figure out where to begin in this web of intrigue." She watched as Ables blinked rapidly several times.
"Why don't you begin by telling me about your debts. Tell me Mr. Ables, exactly how much do your debts add up to?" she asked looking back down at the file.
"My d...debts?" Ables asked.
"Mmmmhmmm," she said not looking at him. "Ball park figure."
Ables thought for a moment then looked at his lawyer. His lawyer motioned for him to answer. Ables turned back to female detective that was now closely looking at him. He licked his lips and answered, "A couple hundred thousand dollars."
Mel cocked her eyebrow at him, "And how much would you say your assets are worth, including your bank account?"
He swallowed hard, "A couple hundred thousand dollars."
Mel nodded, "Well, at least you got that figure right," letting him know that she knew his debt estimation was wrong. "According to the records I've got, you are over 1.5 million dollars in debt. You owe a million alone on your house, plus a few other pesky little bills that are about to go to receivership." She looked him in the eye. "Would you say that my figures are correct?"
The lawyer interrupted before he could respond, "Does this have a point?"
Mel smiled at the man, "Of course it does. I would never waste any of our valuable time if it wasn't." She looked back at Ables, "Okay, since you don't seem to remember your financial situation, why don't you tell me about the robbery of your jewelry store."
"M..m...my jewelry store?" the man stuttered.
"Yes, you remember. The store where all your jewelry was stolen? The store where 4 people were murdered?" When he didn't respond, she added, "You do remember? I mean it was a significant thing that happened."
"Of course I remember."
"Then why don't you tell me about it. What happened that day?"
"The store was robbed and people were killed."
"That's right. Tell me Mr. Ables, are you normally in the store during the day?"
"Yes....I...I...mean, unless I have something else I need to be doing."
"Such as?????"
"Going to the bank....meeting with clients...."
"And where were you the day of the robbery?"
"Ummm, I was at the bank."
"And what were you doing at the bank?"
"I was making a deposit....I have the slip to prove it." Ables said defensively.
"And do you usually make your deposits in the afternoon?"
"Excuse me?" Ables asked.
"I asked, do you usually make your deposits in the afternoon?"
"Ummmm, well, no. I usually make them first thing in the morning."
"And you just happened on that day, the day of the robbery, to make your deposit in the afternoon." Mel said skeptically.
"Yes"
"I see. Well, why were you so late making the
deposit?"

A couple hours later Mel stepped from the interrogation room, Taggert came
out of the observation room and stood beside her.
"You did a good job. He's about to crack." Taggert praised.
Mel smiled as she tiredly put her hand to her neck, Taggert pushed her hand out of the way and massaged the tense muscles for her. "Ready to go in for the kill?" he asked.
Mel nodded and accepted the file that Taggert handed to her. She took a deep breath and Taggert pushed her back to the interrogation room.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," she said as closed the door and went back to her chair. She flopped the file down in front of her and opened it. She pulled out several 8" x 10" colored pictures that she placed in front of Ables and his lawyer. Ables face grew white as he looked at the pictures of the slain people in the photos.
"It may interest you to know that there was one more victim of that jewelry store robbery...would you like to see that?" Without waiting for his answer, she threw another picture in front of him. "Do you recognize this man?" She saw the look of recognition pass over his face as he stared at the photo of Charlie The Tuna. But he shook his head indicating that he didn't know who it was.
"Hmmmmm, interesting. Let me introduce you...this is Charles Atunia, aka Charlie the Tuna. He's a small time fence that was looking to hit it to the big time. But poor Charlie, he didn't quite get to see his ambition. He was found floating in the river. I bet you'll never guess what else?"
Ables looked at her and she continued, "The same gun that shot these 4 people," she pointed to the first pictures she had laid out, "also killed Charlie. Amazing, isn't it?" She caught the look of fear in his face and she leaned closer to him, "Listen, I know that you were in on the heist. But I don't believe that you wanted to see anyone hurt. I think things got out of control and the murders were committed. At least in the jewelry store, but.." and she tapped Charlie's picture, "this was not a situation of things getting out of control. This is a situation of covering ones tracks. And if you think that these murderers are going to stop with their fence, you better think again. Especially once they know that you've been hauled into jail. They're going to start thinking that you told us everything. And the next photo I'll have in this collection is your's."
She watched the look of terror cross his face. "Listen to me Mr. Ables. All
you have to do is tell us who they are. We can get them. All you'll be facing
is robbery and insurance fraud. But if you don't help us out, you'll be facing
accessory to murder
charges."

Jax stepped into the police station. It was eerily quiet. He hadn't been
able to sleep and had decided to come to the police station and see what
was new on the case. He noticed a couple of policemen seated at a desk and
was about to ask for help when he heard the name Ables being discussed by
the two officers.
"You mean she finally got him to spill his guts?" One officer said in amazement.
"Yeah, you should have seen it. The guy was crying like a baby. His lawyer was sitting there yelling at him to shut up and he wasn't paying attention. He told her everything."
Jax stepped back behind a partition and unashamedly listened to their conversation.
"So the jeweler was in on it, huh?" The first officer said.
"Yeah, apparently he's in over his head in debt. He thought up this whole burglary in order to get the insurance money and a cut of the profits from the sale of the jewels."
The officers suddenly stopped talking and went back to work as the door to the interrogation room opened and Mel stepped out heading for her desk. Behind her came an officer and then a sobbing Wayne Ables came out.
Before Mel knew what was happening, Jax had jumped the pathetically sobbing man and had him up against the wall, his hands around his neck squeezing the breath from him. "I'LL KILL YOU!!!" Jax screamed at him. Mel stepped over the officer that had been thrown to floor when Jax had attacked. She tried to put herself between Jax and smaller man, but Jax was budging. Other officers pushed in trying to help, but it was Mel's chilling voice that finally got through to Jax. Mel had her hands on Jax's arm as she looked him straight in the eye, "BACK OFF, right now!" she said between clinched teeth. Jax looked at through the fog of rage in his eyes, "Jax, let him go. This won't do any good. Let him go." Her words finally penetrated and he looked at the man who's face had turned purple, he slowly unclenched his fists from around his throat. Mel pushed him back and watched as Ables slunk to the floor gasping for air. Two officers grabbed Jax and Mel told them to put him in the interrogation room. They pushed him towards the room as Mel looked unsympathetically at the cowering Ables. His lawyer was throwing a fit, but Mel ignored him as she told another officer to book him for robbery and insurance fraud. The officer nodded and quickly picked the sniveling man off the floor and hauled him to the booking room, his lawyer following close behind.
Mel took a deep breath and looked at Taggert who was leaning against the observation room door. "You could have helped," she complained.
Taggert grinned, "And missed watching all the fun? I don't think so."
Mel rolled her eyes then pushed the door to the interrogation room open. Jax was sitting at the table, she noticed his eyes were on the photos that she had laid out for Ables viewing. His face was chalky white as he looked at the photo of his wife. Mel silently motioned for the other officers to leave the room and when they did she walked over to the table and started picking up the pictures. When she reached Brenda's, Jax grabbed it and wouldn't let go. Mel kneeled beside Jax's chair, "You don't want to remember her like this."
Jax turned his tear-filled eyes towards her, still not letting go of the picture, "Why?"
Mel sighed and stood, knowing that he was asking why Ables had done what he had done. Putting her hand on his shoulder she began to tell the story that Ables had spilled. Wayne Ables owned a small but good jewelry store. His success had been quite good, the finer people in town were buying from his store and he had started to live a life that matched his clientele. Unfortunately, he didn't have the money for it. It wasn't long until his lifestyle and debts caught up with him. He had concocted a plan to have his jewelry store robbed. He had done some investigating and had found a man that would be willing to do it, plus give him a cut on the take. He had arranged to be out of the store during the time of what he thought would be a simple robbery but he had come back to murder.
"Did he tell you who the robbers were?" Jax asked.
Mel shook her head, "We're working on it. I promise you...we'll get these
guys."
