Slayer plans to release no less than two box sets during 2000! "We talked about releasing a box-set last Christmas," says guitarist Kerry King, "but decided to concentrate on the new album instead. Now it's happening and there's going to be two versions. One will contain everything that we've done with Rick Rubin, from Reign In Blood onwards. There won't be any rare, unreleased songs, because if we record something, we release it. We might include some four-track home recordings, because they show how songs were created. The second version of the box set might be a toned-down, cheaper version which may contain some backstage passes or plectrums--anything taken from the live environment." Meanwhile, the band is hard at work on material for the new studio album, which they hope to release in June. "We're writing and recording in a home studio," says King. "There's no pressure. We've got six or seven new songs and a whole load of titles, but we haven't allocated them to songs yet. Right now we just want to concentrate on getting the music out. Tom [Araya, bassist/vocalist] just got back to California, so hopefully we'll be firing on all pistons soon."
