MY PORTISHEAD STORY

I first heard of P a couple of years ago. A friend of mine asked if I had any of their albums. By that time there had been only one. I didn`t know that for I didn`t know what P was. So I asked.

The answer was that P was a trip hop band, a good one. I happened to buy a Dummy tape soon. I still have it -- without the sleeve though. The same friend lost it somewhere.

When I heard it it sounded strange. I started listening it every day. I didn`t really understand the words, but I didn`t need to.
Like when you listen to Jim Morrison`s The American Prayer you float in words, needless to understand their meaning, cause you understand that that sequence of sounds is true poetry.
Same with P. It`s like water or air. I could only listen and dream.

It was something secretive for me. Something I was the only one to own. Not long ago i realized P was extremely popular. I bought their 2nd album and didn`t like it from the start and put it aside. Then I returned to it and could understand and liked. Suddenly I couldn`t help wanting to understand the words. That meant the music had got worse.

It was a bit different from Dummy. Something a bit new, once again, and moving. Like sand this time. Now I could hold it and take it with me and carry and show it to people -- what I couldn`t do with airlike Dummy.

Then I searched the Internet, started asking questions. Found out PORTISHEAD was pronounced like PORTIS HEAD and was named like that after a town where one of the creators (Geoff) of the band lived. Portis Head. Sounds colder than Porti Shead (I used to say that name this way). Doesn`t matter.

The idea of making a P web page came in a rush. A good idea, I thought. I hope it isn`t. Now you can see what P is -- as I see it.

P.S.:     I wonder why all the P sites i saw were black.
And another good idea: why not make a P web ring ?
