Simon Li - Bio

Coming out of adopted home Sydney with a guitar, distinctive voice and bagful of songs, alt.country artist Simon Li is currently playing live.

Born in Hong Kong and Melbourne-raised, Simon has been a supporter of and participant in that city’s rich musical scene since the mid-1990s.

He kicked-off playing for Melissa's Partisan, one of a long line of bands to come out of Rock-n-Roll High School in Collingwood.

Simon took the solo path and began performing as a singer/songwriter/guitarist in 2000, racking up an impressive string of supports to the likes of The Zeal (ex-Hellenic Zeal), The Naked Eye and Stinkfish.

A move to Sydney towards the end of 2000 followed and in late 2003 saw him recording a six-song CDEP at Head Miles Studios under the watchful ear of Ashley "Oz Rock" Thomson (ex-Ghost Valley, Drug Squad 66, The Kelpies, The Panadolls, Brother Brick and Roll Cage among others).

Appearances in various rock and roll dives around his new hometown and on 2RRR FM’s "Sydney Sounds" show in 2004 and 2008 have followed.

Simon blends urban country blues with a scum rock sensibility, putting his own warped spin on the crowded alt.country genre.

He lists his influences as Steve Earle, Whiskeytown, Son Volt, Johnny Paycheck, Willie Nelson and The Powder Monkeys.
