bar About

(The information given below is largely true. Names have been changed and pictures altered to conceal my family's real identity. To know why, click here).

It's nice that someone is curious to know a little about me. Let me start first with my daughters - partly because they have some of my features, but mostly because they're much better looking than I am.

That's my daughter Julia on the right. Alicia, my younger daughter, is the one below.

Julia has my mouth, earlobes and part of my nose, while Alicia has my navel, eyebrows, and milk teeth when I was her age. So with a little bit of imagination and a lot of extrapolation, you should be able to figure out how I look like. (If you give up, then click here). Oh, yes - my wife? She has my money. (Just kidding...she has my love and affection. Really).

One of my passions is music. I work for a large multinational company, and my current job takes me away from my family - I get to see them only a few days a month. On the days that I miss them, music is the one thing that keeps me sane. (I've tried golf, but I have no natural aptitude for the game, and I've lost so much money betting that I've now given it up).

I play the guitar and keyboards, and I enjoy sequencing music. I use the Roland MC500, Cakewalk, and Midisoft Studio for my sequencing work. I input my music data in real time via a Roland EP50, and/or a Fender Strat hooked up to a Roland MIDI interface. Occasionally I would resort to step entry for difficult passages. My MIDI sequences are played back through a Roland SC55 MkII Sound Canvas.

I also have a Fostex XR7 Multitracker - a 4-track audio recorder - which I use to overlay my MIDI sequences with audio and vocal recordings.

I'm partial to blues, rock, and jazz, but I'll listen to any kind of music. I've played in pop bands in high school, rock bands in college, and blues bands for some years after I graduated. Nowadays, though, I just play along with MIDI tracks that I sequenced without the guitar parts, or partake in the occasional jam session with other musicians. Over the years, I've written several songs of my own, some of which have been recorded.

Another passion of mine is painting. I'm now in the midst of painting my kids' portrait, though it will probably take me six months to finish.

bar Projects

The following are a sample of the songs I'm currently sequencing. Some are still unfinished, of course (usual excuse - too many things to do and too little time to do them). I've included some explanatory remarks:

  • Smoke On The Water - The melody track needs to be laid down, and the guitar solo needs cleaning up. Also, the ending is a bit abrupt. Give me a couple of weeks, and I'll find the time to clean this song.
  • Massachusetts - It's sorta finished. I just need to balance the instrument levels. I've got it listed in my MIDI Files page for anyone who wants to download it.
  • 4+20 - This is a classic Stephen Stills number. Just acoustic guitar and melody. Also listed in my MIDI Files page.
  • The Autumn Leaves - Done in a jazz style, with only electric piano and upright bass. Again, it's listed in my MIDI Files page.
  • To Love Somebody - Only the melody track needs to be put in, and maybe balancing of the instrument levels.
  • New York Mining Disaster 1941 - No melody put in yet (except for a few bars at the start of the song). The drums are merely keeping time, so I need to spruce this up a bit.
