first off, the show was AMAZING. i have to start off my review
by mentioning
hwo we came about our tickets (i think it affected the outcome of the
show a
LOT). i didn't even know tickets went on sale, forget even that
it was sold
out and scalpers want $200 a TICKET for them "well, it's a popular
show"
pshaw. so my friend erin (who helped me compose the setlist)
suggested we
wait at the box office day of. we arrive there at 2:30, to see
a small line
of about ten already formed. we coul'dve met the band (michael stipe
was seen
with them) but we couldn't get out of line, ugh. it was neat
though cause a
guy in front of us went to meet him and after he left, he complimented
him to
his friend on his very nicely home-made radiohead shirt. by six o'clock
(one
hour after tickets were to be released)there was a line of well over
100. two
people leave-yay we are closer. so around 7:30, it gets downright depressing
because people with tickets start walking in, aghhh, torture. (it would've
been easy to sneak in but where would you go from there-you NEEDED
a ticket
stub and besides, sneaking in sucks) finally, at eight, they
release three,
some random spot, but not on balcony, woop. so we wait, at 8:10
(yes SIX
hours after we started waiting), ten minutes into the show (yes, the
opening
act actually started on time, eek!) they release fourty, eleven which
include
PIT tickets. erin and i are the LAST pair to get pit seats, and
YES, for $20
each! one guy who bought one ticket got the seat next to us.
all the rest
got last row, or balcony. we could touch the stage from our seats,
we felt
so (don't laugh) cool when we walked all the way down. we see most
of teenage
fan club, who is very good-poppy and hard, very catchy. the lead
singer is
friendly with the audience-humorous-which was very cool. so soundcheck
is
going on, we go up and look at shirts. i am tempted to buy the
squealing
little gucci PIGGY shirt but erin suggests this cute blue oknotok shirt,
so i
say, hm, okee. anyhoo, we go back to our seats and in a few minutes,
we watch
the lights go dim and "fitter happier begins" while it is playing,
radiohead
walks out <swoon> they begin with "lucky" and proceed to play
seventeen
songs. it ends with "fake plastic trees". thom yorke was
continually
thanking the audience, and he sounded sincere, which i think is the
best
part. so the crowd keeps cheering and it is obvious they are
going to come
out and do an encore. they play four songs, which includea song
i don't know
from the first album, "the tourist", "electioneering", and "street
spirit
(fade out)". he again says thank you and they walk off stage.
the crowd
keeps going in hopes of one more. the guard tells us to clear
out and some
guy says "no, they're coming back!" and the did, yay!. they finish
it all up
with "subterranean homesick alien" which i kind of expected.
thom yorke was
just beautiful. he had so much emotion in at, and at times, just
had fun and
over-dramatized every mood he made. he walked up close to the
audience and
would just stare at thim the same way they had been staring at him.
i
personally liked the "little dance" the <smack me i forgot his name!>
guitarist who's taller with shorter hair did. it was funny.
i especially
liked that they did all of their "sound effects" live from a sound
keyboard,
a xylaphone ("no suprises" <swoon>), or with their own simple guitars.
they
went through constant guitar changes and they were minor technical
difficulties after two songs (a string broke) but it was quickly fixed
and
yorke apologized for the delay. you could tell when he was sing
"creep"
because he said something he had aid before-about it still being a
good song
:)-and it was funny because you could hear people singing along.
the crown
in general was okay. you could tell when they didn't know something
though,
and there were a few rude people yelling out "thom, you're so fucking
special!" it was a GOOD show though, despite a few idiots.
the only part
that put a real damper on things is when the show was over, i more
than
anything wanted a setlist. so i am up there, saying pleeeeease
give me the
setlist, and i call to a roadie no one really called to (they're busy
concentrating on thom yorke's setlist) and i call to the guy to give
it to
me, and he gets the setlist, and walks directly towards me. he
literally
practically handed me the setlist and a guy (the same one who got the
last
ticket) grabs it. he was like, a foot and a half taller than
me. at first i
thought i might of imagined that he was trying to hand it to me, but
my
friend also made a comment saying it totally looked like he was trying
to
give it to me. i mean, i don't blame the guy for taking it (even
though i
felt like i kinda had dibs on it) but it just really sucked, and i
was
dissapointed tremendously. erin also mentioned something about the
guitarist
looking at us. i thought i was imaginign that, too, but we both
felt it,
like he was just giving us crazy intense concentration looks.
it was a bit
scary, but cool at the same time, hehe. overall it was a blast,
the music
was beautiful, and i think this was one of the best, if not the best
concert(s) of this year. i had seen them three times before,
but always in
short, five song festival shows and this whole show of them-two hours-just
brought out the best, and i hope to see them again in the future.
