This show was a special presentation to introduce OK Computer to the
press, TV and radio (and fans, including a busload down from London).
nb. Both Barcelona shows (22 & 24 May) were filmed by an EMI camera
crew. Apparently they will edit the best bits for the record label
territories to use at their "discretion". (A slightly less
professional tape recording of 24 May is also in existence.)
The songs:-
Lucky
My Iron Lung
Airbag
Creep
Exit Music (For A Film)
Karma Police
Talk Show Host
Fake Plastic Trees
Paranoid Android
Bones
Climbing Up The Walls
No Surprises
The Bends
Electioneering
Just
Encores:-
1. Let Down
Street Spirit (Fade Out)
Planet Telex
2. Subterranean Homesick Alien
High & Dry
3. The Tourist
(Two hours plus)
The band are totally relaxed. Thom was strolling round in Barcelona
on Friday, and he seemed to be quite happy to give a comment or two to
his raving disciples before wandering off.
On stage they were quite stunning. Plenty of audience contact, loads
of smiles, total confidence, just a fucking laugh.
The Bends material is now out of control. No polite claps and
whistles from the crowd: now every one of the songs sets off a
frenzy.
Some of the more unfamiliar stuff is going the same way already. Talk
Show Host works perfectly live:
"...you want me....well fucking well come and find me"
is, you know, just one of those lines. So tempting.
Creep. Very special. Climbing Up The Walls was dedicated to the
London busload (plenty of whingeing about the journey pays off).
The usual banter:- Thom, "What shall we play now?"
Audience person, "Pop Is Dead."
Thom "No we're not playing that, it's crap. This
is a good song though...."
(High And Dry folks, apparently it's "a good song")
Jesus, they're so good. What's the same concert going to be like in a
month or two when everyone knows OK Computer?
Sorry about the amateur review. Just thought you'd want some bits of
information. The little matter of not knowing the new stuff is a
problem, but certainly Airbag, Exit Music (For A Film), Paranoid
Android, Let Down...... all instantly superb live.
There's some splendid KICKING SCREAMING GUCCI LITTLE PIGGY t-shirts
around too.
