Fitter, happier played overhead in the dark. The lights began
to brighten over the stage
as the background music to "fitter, happier" began. The guys
took the stage at around
10:00 after a mediocre Teenage Fanclub. They seemed happy.
The whole show was
brilliant. I was close to the stage, in front of Ed and Thom.
They played an incredible
Planet Telex. It was very guitar loud and Thom broke a string
during his convulsive guitar
playing. Every song was better than I could have imagined as
this was the first time I
saw Radohead live. There were maybe 300 people there. Cheering
and shouting was
enormous at occasions. Between Fake Plastic Trees and Paranoid
Android, everyone
cheered as the guys just stood on stage, looked at each other
and smiled. It was
great. There was some moshing during the guitar frenzy in My
Iron Lung. Some people
were yelling for Maquilladora, Killer Cars, India Rubber, and Inside
My Head. First Thom
said "I'm impressed with your knowledge of our songs" and they continued.
More
requests were shouted to Thom later as he said "I can't seem to hear
what you're saying"
A third time there was even more shouting for Killer Cars, India Rubber,
and Maquilladora
and Thom just smiled waiting for it to stop. Finally he walked
up to the mike and simply
said "shutup" Everyone laughed and cheered as they continued.
Overall it was just
plain amazing. Highlights for me were Planet Telex, Bones (Thom
doesn't play guitar on
this song and his actions really speak for the song) Paranoid Android
(even better live)
Airbag, and Talk Show Host. But best of all, they played my favorite
song off of Pablo
Honey, which is Lurgee. I didn't even know they played that song!
I was in shock.
