USA, Boston: Harborlights - August 23, 1997

august 23, 1997 boston, ma--harborlights pavillion
let me start off this review with a quick note.  i've been to many
concerts, but no radiohead ones.  i had seen beck in a small club last
summer and that was by far the best concert i had ever been to...until
last night.  nothing could have prepared me for what was going to
happen.  the night before, i had made a shirt(blue) and p[ainted the
words karma police... on front with a cop car and on the back: are
coming to get you with some symbols and stuff.  that was what i wore, so
if you saw that shirt it was me.  i was hoping to show the band the
hsirt, but...  i ended up buying a shirt there too, for the hefty sum of
$30.  all the shirts looked really cool, but they were running out of
various sizes.  the place was seated but my friends and i had pretty
good seats: section 2, row y.  every once in a while, i could hear
someone talk about my shirt or look at me.  i was feeling good, but oh
well.  the dandy warhols were first.  i thought they were really really
good. teenage fanclub was next and i can't stand them, so i'm bias in
opinion.  i thought every song sounded the same, and they were too poppy
for my likings...they sounded like every other band...but alas,
radiohead was next.
the band looked real good.  from where i was, thom looked like he had a
beard, but at closer glance i wass wrong.  during every song, he would
shake his head back and forth, i thought it would come right off.  ed
looked tall, as usual.  jonny looked like jonny, all hair.  colin was
bouncy and singing to himself in the background.  phil...well, i
couldn't really see phil.  just was really good...thom broke a string(3
all together in the show)  i was mesmorized by jonny's playing.  man, he
just abuses that guitar.  there's really nothing i can say about all the
songs.  they all rocked my world.  everysingle song made my body jerk
and jump.  for the first time, a concert actually moved me.  i could
feel it inside. i thought everything off the bends sounded great.
espcially my iron lung, bones and bends.  during bones, thom was just
flying.  it was amazing.  he introduced creep as a song "they still like
and we invite you to sing along"  and of course, everyone did, same with
fake plastic trees.  when they came out for the first encore, ed was
clapping to us.  they played polyeythylene(an "obscure song" as thom put
it), which i had never heard.  they dedicated it to teenage fanclub
because their bus had broken down the night before or something.  the
ended on street spirit and people satered to file out like mad.  i stuck
around cuz i knew they would be back.  i got up to the forth row so i
had a real good view.  they came out again and again, ed was clapping
and jonny looked genuinely in awe.  they said something to the sorts of:
this is an old song and they played banana co.  i about died.  i really
wanted to hear thinking about you, but banana co was a much better
selection.  i stuck around after to see if i could see the band, but no
luck.  so...all in all it was the best show of my life and the best time of my life.
