A basement 'zine from 1985, just after Larry joined the band.

Brain Damage 'zine

Recently we brought Possessed to LA for a couple of shows in late January. That was the first time they played outside the Bay Area. They were totally GOD! The post-demo material is even better (impossible but true!). Songs like The Exorcist and Holy Hell rage! This is an interview with Mike Torrao, Jeff and new guitarist Larry. Drummer Mike Sus was asleep during most of the interview. Oh well...

BD - How long did the demo take to record?
Jeff - About ten hours. We ran through it as fast as we could 'cause we were real short on money.

BD - Was Fallen Angel recorded in the same sessions?
Jeff - It was recorded in the same session, but it was a one take kind of thing. We mixed the three original songs and we just left that one on tape.

BD - Is your following growing in the Bay Area?
Mike - It's starting, it's getting there I can tell. We're just trying to get on good bills with bands like Exodus.

BD - Why did you get rid of Brian Montana?
Mike - He wouldn't go by the image, he wouldn't do what we told him, plus he wasn't into the black metal type, he's more of a Culture Club type. I made an armband for him one time, I was gonna put this cross on it and he make me make it into a YMCA band he turned it into that, it looked just like the YMCA! It was so stupid!

BD - Was Kerry King gonna join the band?
Mike - Well he said he'd move up there...
Jeff - No, he wasn't that close, he was just kinda...
Mike - You don't know shit man! I talked too him on the phone, he said him and Tom were getting in fights all the time and he'd like to join, but it never happened, I didn't think it ever would.

BD - Are there going to be anymore demos, or are you going straight for an LP?
Mike - That's it, no more demos, the next thing wil be an album.

BD - What songs are going to be on the album?
Mike - Everything. (Ed. - He means: The Exorcist, Pentagram, Twisted Minds, Burning In Hell, Satan's Curse, Evil Warriors, Fallen Angel, Holy Hell, Death Metal.)

BD - Is Swing of the Axe going to be on the album?
Mike - No, we don't record songs over and over. That song is dead and so is this beer!

BD - How are your recent gigs with Larry (the new guitarist)?
Mike - When we used to play live with Brian, I always had to look over at him to see if he was playing the songs right. Now I have control on my side and Larry has control on his!

BD - What did you think of your gigs in LA?
Mike - Well the audience are kind of...Well, you go to the Bay Area and see Exodus play it's like...
Toby "Rage" (roadie) - Seeing Exodus is like, imagine yourself staring into a popcorn machine!
Mike - Yeah, that's what it's like.
Larry - Yeah but the Bay Area used to be just like this is now!
Mike - Seriously though, we did not expect this, we thought everyone was just gonna stand there and stare.

BD - Are there any last comments?
Mike - Let's say something nice!
Jeff - Well we saw all kinds of flowers on the way down here!
Larry - Wanna hear something nice? A garbage can full of dead babies, and one live one on the bottom trying to eat its way out!
