Grace as a Princess

It was 1956 and Grace was engaged to Rainier of Monaco. She showed the engagement ring she recieved from Rainier in "High Noon".

On April 18, 1956 they married in the palace of Monaco. There was a civil cermony and a day later the were married in front of God, in the St. Nicholas Church. MGM filmed it all and released it as a film. They were allowed to because Grace had to break her 7 year contract with the studios and here by she retired from the film industry, although she would still do one film and one narration later on.

There were no Royalty from Europe at the wedding, but Grace and Rainier couldn’t complain, because the guest did include people like Ava Gardner and Aristotle Onassis. Rainier's mother brought along a former jewel thief, and of course some jewels did disappear.

Grace was now officially to be called Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco.

Grace found out that she was pragnent right after the honeymoon. The first child born was princess Caroline only 9 months and five days after the wedding. Soon would follow a son, Albert and later on Stephanie, the baby.

The princess did lots of charity work. She was president of the Red Cross and also became honerary president of Amade, a organistion which helps underdevelopped countries. She was pro beast feeding and organised a yearly Christmas party for children in Monaco.

Grace longed to act again, but had to refuse the offer of Hitchcock when he asked her to do the leading character in "Marnie" in 1964. Tippi Hedren got the part. Grace went to Paris in the late 70’s and there she became close with Robert Dornhelm, a film director. She spent less time on her marriage.

Finally, in 1977 she narrated a documentary The Children of Theatre Street. And she played a part in the film Rearranged. She worked together with Robert Dornhelm in these movies.

Then, on September 13th, 1982 Grace was involved in a car crash she probably got a stroke behind the wheel and lost control over the car. She died the next day. Among the people on her funeral was Princess Diana. Who not only look up to Grace, but also was a personal friend.
