NEVER SAY NEVER
Updated 11/11/98
I guess that the cat is out of it's rather pooish-smelling bag. Yes indeed, it looks like the Go-Go's will be doing some shows in '99 with the original line-up. Quite hysterical, isn't it? Rumor has it that Belinda is off of yet another record label and is ready to give the band thing another go-round. With dollar signs in front of their eyes, the Go-Go's will be at a theater near you in early Summer of 1999.
My ideas for the tour names?
1. "We Still Just Don't Get Along"
2. "We've come for your money"
3. "Don't look at me, just play your guitar and shut up"
More info soon.
I'd like to start a list of Go-Go's bootlegs, both video and audio. If you've got some that you'd like to tell me about, please email me.
OTHER STUFF
Look at this picture of Jane and Gina from the Academy in New York City, back in 1994.
I don't know who took this shot, I wish that I did. That was a great show. It was also cool to see the celebrities that showed up, like Sandra Bernhardt, Sara Gilbert, Fred Schneider and Ricki Lake. The drunk guy beside me kept saying to me "Where's Belinda? Is that Belinda? Does she have short hair? Man, is she hot!" This was pretty annoying, but he also kept bringing me beer. That absolves him of his sins in my big book.
Clicking here will show you that old picture of Gina showing her heart surgery scar.*
The BEATNIK BEAT site is a great source for Go-Go type stuff, and it's one of the best looking sites around. Go check it out.
Disgraceland is a big Go-Go's site, but It doesn't get updated too often.
Otherwise, head back to my opening page.
*Thanks to the Scanner Ho for running this one off for me...
My Go-Go dream
So I had this strange dream during vacation, and I don't quite know what to make of it. If
anyone cares to send me an analysis I would welcome it.
In my dream, I am in Los Angeles taking a bassoon and contrabassoon audition, I think for the
LA Philaharmonic. It turns out that the Go-Go's are doing some concerts in the same hall that
I've been at for the audition. All of the security guards are used to seeing me around so they give
me full access.
At the first show that I attend I sit about one-third of the way back in the hall, house left. It's
obviously not the first concert they've done. I don't recognize many songs, most of them sound
like they are rejects from Vacation. None of the band members are even looking at each
other, and between songs Kathy goes to a microphone and says "You told us that this was going
to be fun. It isn't!" I guess she's speaking to the promoters.
After this I go backstage. Jane is walking around and Kathy is on a payphone crying. No other
band members around.
Later in the dream I go to another show at the same location. I pick things up backstage at
intermission, where I can hear Belinda screaming "World without You" an octave too high in her
dressing room.
I go back out into the auditorium. I have my backpack and contrabassoon with me, and decide
that my instrument would be safest if I layed it down on the front of the stage. Luckily there is a
seat on the aisle in the second row. The second half of the concert is about to start when
JonJon sits down right behind me. We say hello, and then I realise that Joseph is a few seats
over in the same row. I say hello to him, but he says "Douggie, SHHH!" and the concert starts
up.
The second half is supposed to begin with a concert grand piano rising out of the stage and
microphones dropping into place for it. The piano gets stuck half way out of the floor. Gina has to
stop playing because Charlotte can't come in. Some technicians come out to try to solve the
problems. Belinda stands around drinking bottle after bottle of Evian. Kathy walks over to a wall
and stares at it. Jane tells jokes to the first few rows. Gina sits on a riser. Finally the piano is
lowered back into the stage and they skip the song.
The weirdest part of the concert comes next. While playing a song all of the band members
except Jane form a line across the stage. Then a Ryder truck backs onto the satge. Jane, while
playing, runs up onto Kathy's shoulders, then over Charlotte's keyboard (stepping on her hands
on the way), and over Gina's drum kit. Finally she runs over Belinda's outsteched arms and into
the back of the Ryder truck! Joseph, JonJon and I yell for the truck to be closed up with Jane in
it. That happens, and the truck drives off. Then a movie screen drops and psychedelic films play
while the band makes a costume change.
We decide to leave because we're embarassed for the band. We go backstage to try to catch
the band but they have cancelled the remainder of the show and left through secret
tunnels.
Joseph says that he'll drive me home so we all pile into his convertable. JonJon is in the back
with some women. We are driving around when we realise that we don't know when the next
show is going to start. One of the women in the back seat turns into Dede. She pulls out
intineraries and charts are uses astrology to figure out when the next show will begin. she
calculates that the next show is beginning before the current one ends, so we're late!
END OF DREAM
What does it mean???
