There you are!  What took you so long?  *LOL*

Here are links to pictures of other folks who've attended Carnaval.  Most of the photos were taken in 2000, although there are some older photos, too.  Click the link within the description of the photo to have the image load.

E N J O Y ! ! !

Carnaval 2000 featured the usual cast of thousands, revelers with one thing in mind:  p-a-r-t-y!!!  Here is one crowd shot - be sure to study the photo carefully, as you never know what you may see!!

Here is another photo of the 2000 crowd, and one from 1999.

'Festival of the Flesh' (oh my!)  This guy could sure use a new pair of jeans - or a pair of chaps, either/or.  This gal was almost topless - the glitter helped to make her legal.  I snapped this photo of a guy just after he disrobed, to show off his leather thong.  Speaking of leather, animal skins are popular costume essentials, as evidenced by these two savages, not to mention one of several chamois-wearing guys scattered about.  Here is one of the many women who felt that less was better when it came to cover-ups.  Some guys go to great lengths to satisfy their exhibitionistic tendencies, like this flasher.  "Look out, Ethel!!"

Bigger than Life  Bigger can be better, and gigantic costumes, hats or puppets are always crowd favorites.  Here we have happy puppets, what may have been giant Elvii, an oversized piņata, and grass-skirted savages with giant heads.  That's Jimmy, Chris' husband, in the background.  He made that tee-shirt especially for Carnaval, and it has images of past Carnaval posters and pictures.  If you look very closely, you might be able to make out the picture of us from 1999, located about the center and almost to the hem of his shirt.  Way to go, Jimmy!!

Boy, will these folks have a ring around the tub after they clean up at home!  Of course I am referring to body painting, the alternative, always-in-style costume.  Here's what may have been a Smurf.  Quite possibly the same guy, here he is painted a dark color, while his buddy is painted red, with horns to boot!  Look carfully past the woman with the mask in this photo, and you will spot a guy in green.

Creativity Rules!!!  Leave it to Austinites, a creative bunch if ever there was one!  Here is a woman who decided that a table decoration would make a nice hat.  Here is a guy who wore a discarded gold purse as his hat.  It would take quite an army to mess with these Vikings!!  The picture says it all - a wedding cake!!  Last year's Carnaval fell on Valentine's Day, so Cupids were abundant!  I can't be sure, but I think this guy was horny.  *evil grin*   Here is an older picture of someone dressed as the lead singer from the rock band,  Kiss.  Here's a trio of showgirls, and one showboy.  Did someone order a peacock?  This woman's outfit was simply fabulous - maybe a throwback to the days of go-go dancing.  Anyone for fruit?  Oh, sorry - it's only for decoration!  All hail the Sultan!  This woman in the pink and blue outfit was great!  Note the folks who surround her, too!  Finally, another woman in pink, with a tall hat.

Everybody Conga!!!  1-2-3-4-conga!!  1-2-3-4-conga!! Conga lines form and change regularly and seemingly endlessly throughout the night.  If you stand in one place long enough, you can catch quite an assortment of characters!  Brightly colored wigs seemed to be quite popular this year, as was the wearing of boxer shorts.  Conga lines:  not just for humans, the animals like them too!!

Well folks, that's about it for now!  Until next year!  Be sure to drop me a line, or sign the guestbook, to let me know if and/or how much you enjoyed this page.  If you were there and have a picture you'd care to contribute to this page, email it to me so I can include it!!
