Along with Birnbaum's Official Guide, I recommend you get one of the following three guides to help plan your vacation. Birnbaum is terrific with Disney information--no other guide offers what his books do--but because he pens the "official" guide, he limits his information to Disney resorts and parks. He will tell you about rides and attractions that other guide books didn't know about before their press dates. Also, he's terrific at offering tips to save money while staying at Disney, but offers no such tips for staying at nearby hotels. The other "unofficial" guides also offer objective reviews of Disney attractions, pointing out which ones you definitely shouldn't miss if you have a limited stay. All are offered at 20% off, most are around $11, a small price to pay considering the money they will help you save and the financial investment of a Disney vacation.

 

Looking for Bargains? The "Unofficial" Guide to Disney World is better than any other guide for pointing out bargains, both at Disney and at nearby hotels. It will give you advice how to save time while at Disney and offer helpful, very objective reviews of Disney attractions. Overall, an excellent companion to Birnbaum's. If you want to stay at a non-Disney hotel, get this one. It will pay for itself ten times over.

Traveling with Kids? Get Kim Wright Wiley's Walt Disney World with Kids. Unlike planning a family vacation to Walt Disney World, nothing about Walt Disney World with Kids: 1999 is overwhelming. It's clearly written and laid out on easy-to-read, noncluttered pages. Kid-travel expert Kim Wright Wiley makes planning a Disney trip sound like fun. She's done her homework, interviewing more than 300 families and using their feedback to add lots of real-life experiences to her reviews of rides, restaurants, and hotels.

No kids? Try Walt Disney World for Adults. Though Rita Aero used to publish a yearly edition of "Disney Adults," the only current guide is the official guide. Excellent for planning an adult get-away.
