Countdown To Extinction!
This is the much-touted dinosaur adventure ride, showcased in its own themed area. After a two-part preshow guests are loaded on to a motorized jeep and sent back in time to find an iguanadon. Before I give you my no-holds-barred take on the ride, let me say this: Kids will love it! Or at least the kids in our car did. It's an interesting ride for many reasons, one of which is the transport vehicles. They are the same guest transport vehicles used in Disneyland's (California) Indiana Jones' adventure. They are a solid advance over previous guest transport systems, as each one is operated independently. Overall, though, I'd give this ride a 6 out of 10. The dinosaurs are not completely convincing. The ride set up is a little hokey. Moreover, I'm not entirely sure what this ride is doing here in the first place, that is, in a Zoo-themed park. My guess, it's here to preempt Universal Studio's Jurassic Park attraction set to open soon. That said, the other attractions in the area are well worth visiting. While we were there, Disney housed many museum replicas of actual dinosaurs, though this attraction appeared temporary. Hopefully they will continue to highlight the more scientific aspects of animal research. Something to notice while there, though: Countdown To Extinction, ironically enough, is sponsored by McDonnald's.
