If you hear a voice within you say
"you cannot paint,"
then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.
Vincent Van Gogh
A painting is finished when the artist says it is finished
- Rembrandt
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
-- J R R Tolkien
I cannot now change my style, which I acquired, as you can imagine, by dint of labour.
- Henri Rousseau
Just to paint is great fun. The colours are lovely to look at and delicious to squeeze out. Matching them, however crudely, with what you see is fascinating and absolutely absorbing.
- Winston Churchill
It has bothered me all my life that I do not paint like everybody else.
- Henri Matisse
Rules of Painting
"See the great in the small" and "see the small in the perspective of the great"
"Among those who study painting, some strive for an elaborate effect and others prefer the simple. Neither complexity in itself nor simplicity is enough.
Some aim to be deft, others to be laboriously careful. Neither dexterity nor conscientiousness is enough.
Some set great value on method, while others pride themselves on dispensing with method. To be without method is deplorable, but to depend entirely on method is worse.
You must learn first to observe the rules faithfully; afterwards, modify them according to your intelligence and capacity. The end of all method is to seem to have no method."
Lu Ch'ai(Wang Kai), Master of Ch'ing Tsai T'ang, XVII-century
"You don't play with art..."
Putting a figure on a display base gives an enthusiast/judge a chance to easily pick it up and appreciate/examine it, without fear of scuffing-up the paint or breaking something.

Cartacci's book rocks!!! It makes my top 10 list of "best" miniature "how-to" books. Dallimore illustrates excellent time-saving tabletop quality in a "GW" kinda way. Wilcox's "new" book has been expanded and is well worth the price in any dollar.
Picked up a bunch of Reaper "flesh" tones, within a week Reaper announced Pro Series paints. Don't understand all the hype for the GW Foundation paints and stocking up on some of my favourite GW inks (purple and green) before they get reformulated. Overall though, IMO, fluid acrylic "hobby" paints are all very similiar. Wonder how well Procreate mixes with A&B?
