fornication
....the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord;
and the Lord for the body:
(1 Cor 6:13 ASV)
A serious sexual problem is one of the biggest problems that
is facing this generation. Sexual perversions of every kind
drench the streets and invade our homes (television and internet).
Sexual temptations is the problem that a lot of people have,
and fall prey to. It is a serious problem that we must get
rid of or it will totally take over the heart.
fornication is NOT only the physical act of having sex outside
of marriage, it is also, simply looking at woman, with lust in
your eye (dreaming or thinking..). Jesus said, "
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman
(or man) to lust
for her has already committed adultery (or fornication)
with her in his heart. (Matt 5:28 NKJ)."
As for how to overcome this giant... that is not an easy thing
to deal with. I know because I've fought this giant all my life,
but through Christ we can overcome. Some things I've found useful
in helping overcome these feelings are:
1. simply avoid things where you're really tempted. 2. read the
bible. 3. pray for strength. 4. if necessary, run...
1. avoid things where you're really tempted.
Avoid certain movies, magazines, and other tempting things. Like
judging movies by the ratings and not seeing ones above a certain
rating because of the chance of sexual things being in it. Like
not looking at porno of any type... and staying away from that
section of the bookstore (not always possible). I know it is not
possible to stay totally away from these things that will add
fire to your problem... but there are simple things that can be
done to avoid exposing yourself to them. "I may have to see them,
but if I have the choice whether to see them or not, I choose not
to see them" is the attitude to have.
2. read the bible.
In order to overcome any problem reading the bible will help.
It will encourage, strengthen, and guide you in the direction
that you need to go. It is an unending source of strength and
encouragement as you struggle overcoming any problem.
3. pray.
This, also, is a must for overcoming any problem. Praying will
help you more than you could imagine... the bible says that a
man who prays in the spirit helps himself.
4. run.
Let us follow the example of Joseph. Who, when the temptation
got too hot, simply ran away. If you are faced with a temptation
and are afraid you're going to give in.. RUN. Leave the place
and go somewhere else. If you stay you will problably talk
yourself into giving in, justifying it somehow.
