KROQ's 8th annual ALMOST ACOUSIC CHRISTMAS-Night Number One.

First there's a little you should know about this night. Three of the Act's cancelled. Björk, The Verve, and Jamaroqui cancelled. Björk was actually only announced for three days before she cancelled. Jamaroqui cancelled Wednesday Evening (they were stuck in London) and so did the Verve. I was pretty much going for the Verve, so i was upset. But someone in their family died, so i was only dissapointed. Okay, so to take their places Blink 182 and Scott Weiland were announced..then, a few hours later...BECK, No Doubt, and Rancid were added! This nite went from the crappy nite, to the KICK ASS nite. See, everyone wanted to go to nite #2 for Bowie, Third Eye Blind (okay no, only christ and i wanted to..) Green Day, Save Ferris, Sugar Ray, 311..etc. But this nite turned kick ass..so here'a a run down on the show.
please note: these are actual pictures from the show. They were printed in a little mag a few months later.

It's POURING RAIN. El niño. All anyone can talk about. Heh. BUt we get there, and take our crappy balcony seats. So starts the night of 12 bands..

1. Chumbawumba-Okay i had an open mind to them. I thought they would be fun. They sucked. Even tubthumper sucked. If you can't say something nice...

2. The Sneaker Pimps-i wanted to see them. But i just think that a festival like this is not the place for a band like them. I think they would be cool on their own. But they bored me there. The chick has a very sexy cool stage presence. They played 2 songs of which the name escapes me, Spin Spin Sugar and (duh) 6 underground.

3. Blink 182-Woo punkiness. They were pretty good. THey had a lot of personality. THey played a lot. And how could i not love them when they started "i'll tell you what i want what i really want..so tell me what ya want.." heh. They were cool.

4. Smashmouth-La, yes i wanted to see them. They were semi-good when they opened for blur! They got the crowd up..er, walkin on the sun did. They were enjoyable. Oh yeah, and i found this so amusing..the singer said "C'mon ya'all..its Christmastime..FUCK!" hehe...

5. Fiona Apple-yes, i had never seen Fiona. I was looking forward to it. She was the worst act there. The second she started Shadowboxer christ and i were just like Oh my GOD what's wrong with her voice? We were just waiting for her to say "im sorry i have a cold.." but she didn't. Which made it even worse. She was in a skanky see through shirt and she kept touching herself and the way she threw her head around dancing reminded me of the pool sex scene in showgirls. Um she played Shadowboxer-Sleep To Dream-Criminal-A BEAUTIFUL christmas song-Never is a promise. Never is a promise was painful to listen to. She just made it SO bad.

6. Rancid-heh. it was neat to see them. They got a small tame pit going. They played quite a while too. Did Time Bomb and Ruby So-ho. Hehe. Was good loud punky stuff. Whee fun!

7. Matchbox 20-I didn't hear the beginning. We were starving.
(Insert EVIL hotdog story here) I went down to grab us something quick..that ended up being three songs. All they had were hotdogs so i took them. They were..i can't explain. AWFUL. you couldn't bite through them, they were chewy, they were in onion buns they squirted hot creamy juice when you bit in them. We ate about half of it, from starvation and had to stop.
Anyhow, i got to hear Push :) only.

Still naseous from the hot dog's we went in search of soda and candy canes..and missed
8. Beck- But only Devil's Haircut. We got drinks and felt better. And decided to walk onto the floor. We took spots in the last row where we could SEE THE SCREENS! hee. much better seats. And he ws so good! He got the whole crowd up and i got to dance around and ...beleive it or not..christ actually danced! hehe. He was so good! Christ and i kept saying "but beck, you;'re white" hehe...Jackass was pretty, and where it's at was sooooooooooooooooooooo long. Half way through he decided to remodel the stage and took this painting and moved it all over the stage. He's so dramatic. Ending all the songs with his back turned and doing the split's and all. I would love to see him do a show. he was so good!
After beck we journied back to the balcony...but we moved in as far as we could so we were more center and could see the screen's a LOT better.

9. Sarah McLachlan- I've decided she just sucks in festical type shows. She was best last week at her own show. But she was still better than the first two times i saw her. During Building a Mystery though, she censerd herself. Instead of "You're so beautiful, a beautiful fucked up man.." she repeated "even as you're charming.." which was kinda..eh. SO many other ppl had been saying fuck. But a few songs later the backstage was loud and she looked back and yelled "Shut the fuck up!" it was so funny. She swam again too! hehe..Building a Mystery-Hold On-Good Enough-Elsewhere-Possession-Sweet Surruender.
Christ and i go to pee and miss them ANNOUCNING the next act..we come back to our seats as the stage turns..we're like "who is it.." there is this guy standing there...and until he starts singing ..we dont realize that it's...

10. Scott Weiland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeee. The whole first song our jaw's are DROPPED. He's in SKIN tight Leopard type pants, that come wayyyyyy below his hips. His ass is hanging out slightly. He has on a very short see through long sleeved black shirt with fur around the sleeves and collars. His hair is short and dark black, and he had on tons of dark eye make up. Um. He was fucking beautiful. The response he got from the crowd was awful. But i was like..blown away. I didn't want him to leave the stage. The new songs are gorgeous. He has so many people playing with him. The violinist is beatiful. God he was so good. And i was just thirlled with how gorgeous he was. It became almost spiritual ;). He looked so sad and..i wanted to run up there and give him a big old hug. I really hope he's releasing a solo album soon. It's really good! AND he's hot. Like i know i've stated. I wish i could show you pictures..he'd like lean out towards the crowd and you could just see his entire back and ..wow. I didn't know he was so skinny. Wow. The last song he played he said.."this is a new song..we just wrote it yesterday and we're trying it out.." and he played Vaseline. I personally liked his solo stuff better. Whoop, if he does any more shows..im so there.

11. No Doubt-Now, i am probably the only person alive that has never seen No Doubt. So i was really looking forward to seeing them. I guess they were good. But Gwen was getting on my neves. She was wearing like, NOTHING. And it's not like she has a chest so it looked kinda bad. And she was wearing the Bjork hair which was kinda funny. Um..they played Some Song they love, and Different People, and Sunday Morning and um..Spiderwebs..and just a girl. But let's talk about Oy to the world. They brought out the Vandals to do it with them. So Adrain, the oh so cute drummer doesn't have to play this song. You know, being the drummer...you arent really seen. What the crowd DIDNT see until he got out to dance..was that he was COMPLETLEY naked. I mean, he has on socks. And he kept shaking his butt at the crowd and he ran out and danced around with Gwen and it was so funny. Christ was like traumatized. He would turn towards the crowd and start jumping. The whole song. Hehe. Some of the guys that were playing with them..the dancer guy..oh i cant explain it. It was funny. Everyone was just like "i cant believe hes totally naked"
Afterwards Jed was like "at least he looks good naked..." which was the THIRD comment he made that night that leads me to believe, that jed is gay! hehe.

12. Jane's Addiction- Before i talk about them, i should tell you how i feel about Jane's addiction. I HATE THEM. When they're on the radio and perry starts singing it actually hurts. I just HATE THEM. The only reason i was looking forward to seeing them is because Dave Navarro is Absolutley yummy. Funny thing. THey were my second favorite act (heh. after weiland). They were so good! Like, i think i'd like to see them! that's how good they were! Perry came out in SKIN tight red shiny pants..and his ass was falling out the whole time. When his back was toward you..there was the crack. heh. And his monitor kept falling out and they had to fix it. ANyhow, back on to his outfit..and a shiny red shirt..but his hair kicked ass! he had it..i guess in the bjork style where he had like 20 rows on his head, but attatched at the end of his hair was christmas lights! so neat! When it was totally dark you could just see his hair. Dave was in black fishnets and a black skirt. Very cute. Anyhow, the stage presence was so neat! Perry is so spiritual. And it was neat, he would like go and sing in the crowd and they were so respective. he looked so satisfied with the crowd. but the BEST PART..was during the funny number 9 (have kids, they can play with my kids..ill make lemonade...heh sit in the shade) song, they were trying to stick the monitor back in his ass, i mean pants..and he was like shaking his butt to the roadie..and i dont knw when it happened..but all of a sudden..Dave Navarro and Perry are KISSING! oh my GOD. It was a really fucking long kiss. Dave's still playing guitar and Perry's holding on to him kissing him. It was soooooooooooooooo intense. It was sooooooooooooo cool. Heh. that was my highlight of the nite!. ANyhow, they were really good. And i really liked them. And i want to see them again. Funny how this is the band i wanted to see the least eh?

Random Notes: I've never had so much conversation during a concert. Heh. I know we annoyed the ppl by us. esp. making fun of fiona and sarah. Christ and i talked SO much. It was totally fun though! And somethign TOTALLY COOL.
IN the middle of the show, jed stood up and told us the singer of Jamaroqui felt SO bad that they couldnt make it, that they donated 5,000 copies of their CD's. Isnt that like the COOLEST thing? i totally respect them for that. Im sure there were few ppl there to see them truthfully. ( kinda wanted to :() They gave out their new and old cd. I got both. Heh. I thought it was totally cool of him.

lookit how cute stephan was!(lookit how DAMN cute stephan from 3eb was) Christ kept commenting..that the show is probably one of the best ever. The performers seemed SO relaxed and at home on stage, so did the crowd. It was almost in harmony. It was sooooooo lax. With adrian naked and all the gay-ness. I doubt there will be any of that tonight with bands like 311 and Sugar Ray. All the annoying unaccepting ppl that LIKE them are there tonight. So i'm not seeing Third Eye Blind tonight, this was a really good show. It was totally worth my 45$. Yay im done now.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
And now here's another Perspective on the show...Christ's Mini Review:
first of all it rilly sucked my ass so many bands cancelled, but they all had good reasons (except bjork who i kinda wanted to see, to me, it feels like she just flaked)
but then hee, i was excited about seeing beck...and jane's addiciton and wel, i washoping fiona had improved..so i went in not feeling to too excited like i usually am about a show.

chumbawumba: if there were eVER a band that needed to just STOP while they were only 1,000 points behind in the game of music, this was/is them.. make them stop..and they were like, cussing left and right and it's like "your point?"

sneaker pimps: well i could see her screwed-up teeth in the screen! go me. the girls next tom e kept going "spin spin sugar" and i kept thinking haha, tori remix, hah otherwise didnt pay too much attn, they were okay.

blink 182: i've heard em before at some other show, knew they were either ska or punk. they were punk, and they were cool. i feel bad cause kroq's gonna ruin them, hehe

smashmouth: they were okay, i was very "blah" about them, more ska sounding than i thought but i just wasnt in the mood for ska

fiona apple: i said it once, i'll say it again, fiona SUCKS wank live. i like her album, hey,i'm a fan, but my god is she horrendous live. i felt embarrassed for her.

rancid: seen them before, too. liked em better this time, played a LOT of songs in a short time, true punk fashion, hehe

matchbox 20: i liked them but all their subject matter sounded the same, ya know? it's like blah blha about a girl mhm lala

beck: he rocked my ass off. we saw the screen! he did lil dances! he took FOREVER singing where it's at, and made the crowd sing along (like they wouldnt have anyway) and he had the cutest dramatic poses to end every song. the thing about beck is i never knew *why* he became so popular. i like him, but i dunno, he always seemed kinda dorky to me :)

sarah: i liked her better with piano but she was good, rilly comfortable on stage, and played songs i knew! except fer hold on, hehe. but la. the guitar still sounded nice, tho. you could barely hear the "who are you?" part of sweet surrender, tho, which made me mad. ohwell.

scott weiland: hee, good, erin's description is very good. he was cute, it gave you the feeling that they were a carvan of gypsies. very deep and meaningful, hehe
i rilly rilly liked the violin in it

no doubt: i said it once, i'll say it again, they bother me, gwen is trying to be cute, and she's not, i was rilly surprised she didnt do the "fuck you im a girl" cause the last FOUR times i saw em she did, hah seeing adrian was traumatizing but hes the cute one of the group, heh, so, la

jane's addiction: hee, i went in liking them. so i was not dissapointed..i had my eyes closed when perry first kissed dave but i heard the crowd and my goodness, pit seemed like they were kissing forever and dave stood there, got into it, then stood there again, perry was so cute on stage, i was always think number nine your child can play with mine, hee.

the end

p.s. the rain sucks, we almost died!, and everyone flamed :)
