Moyra's Web Jewels Esthetic Treasure Award
In Moyra's Own Words:
Everyone has some sort of archetypal inner audience they play their lives to. When I thought up the Esthetic Treasure Award, I admit that I created it for an archetypal artist and web designer. That artist/web designer/wit extraordinaire was Ann Stretton. Now you may well ask - why then did she not get the very first Esthetic Treasure Award? Simple - I was humbled by her talent into abject shyness. I did not feel that a creative that inhabits such dizzying heights would ever accept this little award. Because she has, I am now in the odd position of being more touched and honored by her acceptance than Ann may be by yet another award for her amazing work....If you think I am overly impressed, here - think again, and visit her sites. Nothing I could say can even begin to skim the surface of Ann's originality, achingly beautiful artistry and technical know how. Hers are some of the most beautifully designed (okay, THE most beautifully designed) and intricate sites on the World Wide Web. You can, and goodness knows I have, spend hours looking through her exquisite offerings and still not see everything there is to see. From incredibly well executed and original linkware artwork for web pages, to vast and varied galleries comprising everything from animated lava lamps to mixed metallic media pieces that are worth robbing banks for, Ann Stretton's many web sites are my little piece of Esthetic Heaven in the Electronic Skies. And I take this opportunity to confess my incurable Ann-Addiction to ALL the glorious treasures that comprise Ann-S-Thesia's Aesthetic Pharmacy.
All this hyperbole aside, I find it very difficult to isolate the elements on Ann Stretton's sites for special mention. However, there are certain pieces that have burned themselves indelibly into my senses, some of which I will simply never forget and always yearn for: The Baroquococo paintings, the Ornamental Illness series, the entire contents of her "Art Without Words" site, the lush and sensual "Environments"for web pages, the incredibly useful and beautiful fonts in the "Dingbatcave", and on and on and on...
If you haven't been Ann-S-Thetized yet, you are in for an experience I envy- but then, I am the sort of person who envies someone's first reading of a favorite and much re-read book.
If you have met the alarmingly original and uncompromisingly talented Madame Stretton before, go back and sigh in ecstasy some more - there is always something new and fabulous.
The fountain of Ann's creativity never dries up, the sign of a true artiste. Even her writing is biting and funny and addictive, and - may the creative deities preserve us!- she never EVER makes a spelling mistake or a typo, there is never a broken image or link on her sites, and nothing, absolutely nothing you visit is ever anything but perfect, both visually and technically. For a painter, Ann Stretton's artistry is something that can only be aspired to. For a web site designer and writer, Ann defines the very standard of perfection.
Simply put, Ann Stretton is the One, the Only, the Original Esthetic Treasure of the Web.
