The original name of the Sailor Moon manga in Japan was Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. This means Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. It is the most popular anime in Japan. It is originally by Takeuchi Naoko and debuted in Japan in March 1992 and is now in it's 5th season there. I have also heard that they just aired episode 200 and that is the last episode, so this is a little sketchy. Since then there have been many different translations including German and Italian.

In the USA they are on UPN (channel 44) and USA (channel 14) Cable TV.

In the beginning they lived on the moon, during the Silver Millennium. Sailor Moon was Princess Serenity and she was protected by the Sailor Scouts. Then one day Queen Byrel showed up and destroyed the moon and everyone on it, including the Sailor Scouts, Princess Serenity, Tuxedo Kamen, Luna and Artemis. Queen Serenity (Serena's mom) used the Imperium Silver Crystal and the Cosmic Moon Wand to destroy the Negaverse and send them all 1000 years into the future on Earth. Unfortunately she also destroyed the moon and herself in the process.

They are the scouts of love and justice.

Each scout is the princess of their respective planet.

Most of the scouts after Sailor Moon appear when the scouts need help and then reveal their identity.

Luna was also sent from the moon, so was Artemis, but they were separated during the sleep. Luna finds Sailor Moon after Luna wakes up from the sleep and guides her. Artemis finds Sailor Venus and helps her to find the other scouts, gives her a transformation pen and is a very important guide to finding the rest of the scouts.
