LA GRAN SABANA
(4/5)One of the best parts of the trip is when you go to the Chinak Meru or Salto Aponguao. After you leave the paved road you have to reach the small indian town of Iboribo. There you hire a curiara (canoe) to just cross to other side of the Aponguao river and walk for about one hour to the falls.
For a different price, you might go down river on one of the curiaras to the falls itself. In our case, we always decided to walk the nice trail that leads you to the falls.
The first time we arrived to Chinak Meru, my wife was breathless for a long moment. The waterfalls are so beautiful and impressive. This is the highest waterfall on the area: 105 meters (350 feet).
You can go to the bottom following a steep but not dangerous trail for a few minutes. The trip is worthwhile because allows you to appreciate the grandeur of the waterfalls.
