x  = S (Serial), or P (Parallel)

A printer can be identified if it is Serial or Parallel by the connector on the printer-side where the communication cable is connected.

Serial interface has an RS-232 connector with 25 pins. Parallel has a Centronics connector with 36 pins.

An exception to the previous rule is when the printer has a Parallel connector and is connected to a Serial-to-Parallel converter (small black box). The printer will look like a serial printer to its host.

An alternative is to look at the Foxboro Part Number (P09XXXX, P05XXX) label on the printer, and use Appendix A, to identify its interface. Again, a very few printers come with both interfaces ready (Brother for example).
