PRINTER PERFORMANCE TIMES

This is to be used as a reference only. It was taken from an old letter to a customer, 18NOV96.

The following printscreen timing was done using the Palette Editor screen from a WP51A with Version 4.2 Software.

The first table is printscreens in "landscape" format.
The second table is "portrait" format.

The chart is given for comparison purposes only and is NOT a guarantee of times TO BE EXPECTED on a plant operational system.

NEW: If the printer is PCL3 (HP870/HP890/HP895), and is connected to a COMMunication processor, you might want to request the special COMM10 image TI9467 to reduce printing time (from 12 to 6 minutes). See CAR991967.

- Fastest printscreen via  Comm Server:  Postscript printer.
- Fastest printscreen via direct Parallel port connection: PCL3
     on HP870C printer (fastest overall printscreen).
- Postscript-Parallel port  is 33% faster  than Postscript-Comm Server 
- Direct Ethernet connection is equal to the parallel port speed.

PCL3 software is used for output to the HP870Cxi printer. Also, the user can select various options: Draft, Normal, and Presentation. Quality modes are in the table so you can see the effect of these on printer throughput.

There are also selections for Portrait and Landscape mode (All times above use Landscape; below is Portrait). Delta-Row-Compression can be used on the HP870Cxi, where it is optional, but must be turned off to send the output to other printers such as HP1600C.

New software was implemented for WP/AW51 to output PCL3 commands. This will run on a 4.1.x and 4.2.x system.

The work has shown that we have been able to dramatically improve the printscreen time and have generated new printscreen options.
