The Ultimate Macintosh

(So Far)

Many years ago, I was reading a computer magazine that featured an ongoing series called "The Ultimate PC." The writer's goal was to push the personal computer platform to its limits by getting the biggest, best, most expensive upgrades available. (I think the magazine was paying for all this.) Of course, time has gone by and his "ultimate PC" has features that range from pedestrian (64 MB of RAM) to archaic (i486 at 100 MHz) by today's standards.

So what are today's standards? I'm not sure, since they change all the time. Today's drool-worthy machine may be next year's standard equipment, and two years from now may be quite sub-standard. However, I sought out the current super-standard: what is the very best Macintosh money can buy?

This may not be the best that money can buy, but it's the most fully loaded that Apple sells directly. Note that this configuration is theoretical; there may not be enough slots to accomodate all the goodies. But let's imagine...

And you thought the Macintosh IIfx was expensive when it came out ($7000)!
