Session Start: Sat Feb 06 14:23:54 1999 * Logging #SOSSTUDY to 'psp2_6pm.log' What is the replacer tool? I have not gotten to that yet. I saw messages on the PSPstudy list. the colour replacer roz, you will like it when you get there pretty nifty tool it is a hard exercise though In what section is that, do you know leapin? I think part 4 roz note positive though I just know it comes nearer the bottom of the tool palette well then you will like the replacer exercise :0 jean do you have a question? I am trying to save as a GIF98 and it won't go, it is no longer trasparent! I think maybe you are thinking of a transparent canvas verses a transparent .gif file do you mean once you save it it no longer has the checkerboard background? but rather a white canvas? yep okay that is the point of confusion then here I will go over for you... there are two types of transparency... on is in the .psp format at 16 million colours.. it is referred to as a transparent canvas it only stays transparent while in psp format .psp that is or if it is a new canvas that has not yet been saved as anything but is a 16 million colour canvas it only stays transparent in .psp format if you finish your product and save it as a .gif or .jpg it is given a white background there is no way to stop that anything that was transparent in .psp format turns white hmm maybe you can change the colour it will turn but it will turn colour if you save it as .psp it stays the same so then you have to reduce the colours from 16 million and resave after picking white as your transparent colour? here you speak of the second type of transparency that is the transparency of .gif thankfully lesson 2 goes into great detail about this but a brief overview the .gif format is transparent in a browser it is much different than a transparent canvas because in psp 5, unless you have view transparency on, it will actually not show as transparent to make the .gif transparent you set your background colour first the same as the colour in the image you want to be transparent let's make it easy remember the rose in lesson 1 with the white background? let's use that as the example open it in psp reduce the colours to 256 by going colors/decrease color depth/256 now before saving go colors/set transparency color (make sure you have already set your background colour to white in psp) when the window opens select set transparent to background colour and click ok now save the image as a .gif89a to check if it worked go colours/view transparent palette I believe it is called and you should see the checkboard background where the transparent color has taken effect when you load into browser it will also be see through k cool! just fine tnanx lots of people get that mixed up it takes most people a while to get used to the two meanings of transparency and what each does Did you say we get into that next week? yes alan in detail we cover compression indepth filesize and file attributes it is probably the most important lesson for web design and graphics small graphics are essential also palettes and browser safe colours I never knew there were two transparencies.. What is the transparent canvas used for if it is only good in PSP format? mostly useful when dealing with layers roz when we get there you will have no doubts of how useful the transparent canvas is :) roz the layers lesson is 3 http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3111 look all around animation is everywhere if you double click on that url up there a new browser window should open with it in it Session Close: Sat Feb 06 15:47:17 1999
