<Bo-Peep-N> on is in the .psp format at 16 million colours..
<Bo-Peep-N> it is referred to as a transparent canvas
<Bo-Peep-N> it only stays transparent while in psp format
<Bo-Peep-N> .psp
<Bo-Peep-N> that is
<Bo-Peep-N> or if it is a new canvas that has not yet been saved as anything
<Bo-Peep-N> but is a 16 million colour canvas
<Bo-Peep-N> it only stays transparent in .psp format 
<Bo-Peep-N> if you finish your product and save it as a .gif or .jpg
<Bo-Peep-N> it is given a white background
<Bo-Peep-N> there is no way to stop that
<Bo-Peep-N> anything that was transparent in .psp format turns white
<Bo-Peep-N> hmm maybe you can change the colour it will turn
<Bo-Peep-N> but it will turn colour
<Bo-Peep-N> if you save it as .psp it stays the same

your transparent colour?

<Bo-Peep-N> because in psp 5, unless you have view transparency on, it will actually not show as transparent

<Bo-Peep-N> the same as the colour in the image you want to be transparent

<Bo-Peep-N> remember the rose in lesson 1 with the white background?

<Bo-Peep-N> open it in psp
<Bo-Peep-N> reduce the colours to 256 by going colors/decrease color depth/256
<Bo-Peep-N> now before saving go
<Bo-Peep-N> colors/set transparency color
<Bo-Peep-N> (make sure you have already set your background colour to white in psp)
<Bo-Peep-N> when the window opens select set transparent to background colour
<Bo-Peep-N> and click ok
<Bo-Peep-N> now save the image
<Bo-Peep-N> as a .gif89a
<Bo-Peep-N> to check if it worked
<Bo-Peep-N> go colours/view transparent palette I believe it is called
<Bo-Peep-N> and you should see the checkboard background where the transparent color has taken effect
