Session Start: Sun Feb 14 01:53:12 1999 *** Now talking in #sosstudy *** Topic is 'VU PAINTSHOP PRO 5 CLASSROOM AND STUDY HALL (Bo-Peep-N and the Oldies) (Leapin)' katz open your email, and set it to check for new mail every 4 to 5 minutes that will help keep your connection alive oh, by the way leapin? the isp I use to use still has the downloads for psp on site so if we need it we can use it, lol I hear that psp6, is in beta testing now I will write jasc and ask if I can get the beta to prepare lessons my url's are http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3111 or http://users.townsqr.com/mwkwicked or http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3111/frames.html (my newest site)!! hehehe and I hate frames!! okay let's do a class lesson everyone can you open your psp 5 if you can we will cover screen capture first off, how many are using mirc right now? * Granny-Wicked says I did screen capture once, don't know what I did or how, but did it I didn't know we could do that at the same time okay for those using mirc.... do this... you know where it says #sosstudy (a little switchbar button?) right click on that open psp5, behind this, and size your screen to be able to see both, and minimise the back mirc area in the menu that opens select desktop now right click it again this time select always on top let me know when that is done that way #sosstudy always stays on top of every other application * Granny-Wicked says button looks like a picture, next to the words #sostudy, on the blue header here, in this room, on the left of the word #sostudy [+stnr] area bunny How do I get paintshop here? now resize your #sosstudy window... do this by dragging the bottom of the window up while holding your mouse button down you want to make the window for #sosstudy about the width of your monitor, however you want it to be only about 2 inches tall in height once you have done that, click on the PSP 5 button at the bottom of your monitor you should now be in mirc, but also be able to see psp 5 okay is everyone at psp 5 now? great let's get started with the capture lesson move your mirc window so you have plenty of room to see the psp 5 menu at the top does everyone have their browser open as well? okay everyone go to the psp classroom at the vu in your browser so you see the lesson listing page http://www.vu.org/cgi-bin/classroom.pl?85 that is it when you are there, type ok great, now click on your psp 5 button again to make psp 5 come forward in psp 5 Click Capture... in the window that opens set these settings click capture then select setup in the window that opens make sure these settings are picked under Capture section = Area Under Activate capture using = Right mouse click Under Options leave nothing selected do not put anything under Options once done click ok okay now click on Capture and pick Start your psp 5 should go away, minimize and you should see your browser behind this mirc screen now....move the mirc out of the way of the psp logo do NOT use your right mouse button only the left to move the mirc window okay let's start the capture in the browser window... right click at the top left hand corner of the psp logo you can let go you only need to click once you should get crosshairs as your pointer now move the crosshair pointer to the top lefthand corner of the psp logo and click once this time let go, but move the pointer to the bottom right corner you will see a square/rectangle forming when the whole logo is encased in that rectangle click once the next thing you know the psp logo is in psp 5!! I get a popup box asking me what action I am trying to take wow huh? sueb, did you move it? the curser the crosshairs? sueb let's try again first go to the web browser to activate it now click directly on psp 5 we are starting over just follow along okay starting over.. click once on your browser to activate it now click on the psp 5 button at the bottom of the screen in psp 5 click on capture and select start it will minimize (go away) you will be back at your browser at the psp 5 classroom site right click your mouse pointer on the logo once you will get crosshairs (a cross for a pointer) now right click again, at the top lefthand corner of the logo let go, but do NOT click again just move the pointer/crosshairs to the bottom right hand corner of the logo when the rectangle box totally encloses the logo, click once this will automatically open psp 5 again, and now the logo will be in psp 5 ready for editing and saving whatever * Granny-Wicked says you should see a 1 x 1 for the area, when you click at the top lefthand corner let me know how you make out the important thing to remember is once you get the crosshairs Bo-Peep-N, how come screen capture won't work in paint shop? do NOT click anyway else like in psp katz? we are using paint shop you mean it will not capture an image inside of psp 5? Is the image to be speckled? I have tried to capture my settings when doing text to so that I can remember them...but it won't work :( I tried that once Bo and had to load a second instance of PSP5 in order for the capture to work I notice sometimes that I need to use the hot key to capture because to right will activate what is on the screen blossom is right, to capture a psp 5 image you have to run psp 5 twice use one as the capture source and one as the capture target thing about it... capture let's psp take something it does not have and allows it to have it if you already have an image in psp it would not need to capture it so you have to trick psp to think it does not have the image yet do that by opening psp twice I hope that made sense I just tried eagle's suggestion with the hot key and it works better. I don't get the popup box that way like I do if I right click sueb it really should not matter if you make the hotkey the right click, as explained earlier under settings then right click is your hotkey it really gives a person a lot of preference it brings up a popup box with right click :( if you like it better using a keyboard key you can sueb under settings did you put right click as the setting? yes very strange since filling in Right mouse click and having now hot key will disable all menu systems normally found under right click * Granny-Wicked says I got the drop down list, leapin, when I clicked on the same spot are you clicking on the title bar of what you are trying to capture? I have seen that happen before yes got a good capture that is the problem probably also transparent if you click on a windows titlebar, you will get its drop down menu I get the menu too. lol you will get used to it for now use the hot key, however right click is much better, less to remember and more control in my opinion anyway I use F11 as the hot key cause like others have found that if you are capturing things that have drop menues or links if you don't get in the area off of the spot you want it will activate rt click stuff. Using f11 will eliminate that problem and I don't have to be so precise * Granny-Wicked says right mouse click first, then left mouse click on the next area, should show a 1 x 1 then go to next point and see the box opening up, click where you want it to end you can right click anyway on the image, except in the titlebar of the window itself * Granny-Wicked says right mouse click first, then left mouse click on the next area, should show a 1 x 1 then go to next point and see the box opening up, click where you want it to end that is how I got mine to work is that okay leapin? great way to "borrow" graphics? :)) jean very good it comes in handy when you want to capture a whole shot of a web page you can make a custom palette from it :) do you always need to do a crop? fabric what do you mean a crop? after i do a capture only if you captured too much ok.... for instance you might have grabbed a little more than just the logo yes it is sometimes difficult to get just what you want i should only get the logo it takes a real steady hand fabric you could use it to steal my alphabet LOL I like being able to make custom palette from it -helps with getting background colors more exact me too eagle explain please again, how to get custom pallet? please yes please Granny how I do it is... when I find a professional site that uses a custom colour scheme that I really like I use psp to capture its webpage, or a good portion of the colour scheme anyway once I have that caputre in psp I can then create a custom palette from the image of that web page remember in the lesson how it talked about creating your own palette load the image nope, sorry in this case capture the image of the web page I don't remember that Reduce colours to 256 error diffusion or nearest color? Go Colors/Save Palette yes we did that... optimized mediam cut or octree? mediun cut nearest color is what I like okay it makes an adaptive palette oh yes, I see it I was following along * Bo-Peep-N says now I know who did not read the lesson lol lolrof I read, didn't understand!! sorry I told you there were parts I just didn't get now save the palette give it a name first one that will make sense later one you get the same when you save transparent save? like bluemarine.pal ????? save pallet? where? Leapin can you give the instructions again with no interruptions. I got lost here. LOL me too under colors gw okay I will start over please everyone one at a time okay.. gw asked about making a custom palette from a caputre capture even so let's use the psp logo that we just captured go colors/decrease color depth/256 now go... just to give you the idea...this is not a necessary step, more visual then anything go Colors/Edit Palette you will now see all the colours used in the vu logo I don't see Colors/Edit.. colors drop down list roz roz colors/edit palette mine is grayed out * Granny-Wicked says reduce to 256 color first roz do you have the psp logo open in psp 5? and did you reduce to 256 colours first? if not open an image and reduce its colour depth to 256 now go colors/edit palette that gives you a viewing of the colours used colors decrease color depth and select 256 colors So when you get the dialog box after reducing to 256 you just click on OK and then Colors/ edit pallette? instead of 256 colors (8 bit) from the drop menu yes Do we pick any setting before we click ok on the 256 color dialog box? now for those with the palette in front of you close it yes roz, I recommend ... nearest color and optimize octree Granny said before Effor Diffusion and I changed it FROM Nearest Color. Just changed it back. may i interrupt? or optimized median cut, whichever with that one I have never used edit palette before..nice to know now if you want to save the palette after you have viewed it and determined it is a nice one I use nearest colot Bo go colors/save palette give the palette a name that you will recall in the future for instance if it is a lot of blues that work well together you might call the palette blueblend psp will put the .pal extension on for you but you could also type it if you want like blueblend.pal Where is it stored? it will automatically store it in the psp palettes directory as default unless you change that to something else when you want to get that palette later open a canvas and go colors load palette and pick blueblend.pal from the folder the canvas (or image) that is open will convert to the blueblend.pal in 256 colour mode why couldn't we save it in the 16million colours? palettes are saved only in 256 colours katz okay thanks may i? I am not sure of the theory behind that one, but am pretty sure it has to do with web colour hello mominator! never saw you come in hi, just wanted to add that the class page was done image needs to be in 256 colours before loading palette? peice by peice and that i DID NOT use the color pallettes mominator: did you get my email to add my URL? yes, now, if you will look at the class page, you will notice that every grouping has a different shade of blues jean I believe that if the image is 16 million and you load a 256 colour palette, it will automatically switch the image to that 256 colours mom can you post the url here again please? looks terrible (i think) because all the colors don't match! http://members.tripod.com/mominator_2/psp.html what colours don't match, where? thanks mom julianna you have a question? the buttons are different colors because i did not save and then reuse the color custom pallette that leapins is now teaching us how to do ok when I was doing buttoms last nite and I was done the transparance is gone does it look white 1st question juliaanna, where are the buttons? you mean now do you have them posted so we can look to see if they are transparent? in lesson 1-5 no not yet okay, well... they look I think I understand your question juliaanna, you will not see the transparent in psp5, only in browser are you saying... when you set the transparent colour it does not show in psp? if so.. try this.. load your button that you saved the transparency on when I save it and came back to look at it the background was white right that is normal ok do this julianna whenever you want to check to make sure do this open the image and then go to colors/view palette transparency if transparency was set on that image, it will now turn to a checkerboard transparent canvas you know you were successful ok thanks just remember to go back and turn off view palette transparency otherwise all your saves will be on a checkboard * Granny-Wicked says hmmm, another good clue to remember yes 2nd question * z-Katz^^ thinks PSP is much easier to use for transparencies than photoshop hehe gw I learned that one the hard way!! I agree katz is that why sometimes my saves have a checkerboard background couldn't figure that one out eagle, if your save is a .gif and has the checkboard background yes that is the reason that was the thing that swung me from photoshop to PSP I scanned a picture and it look great and when I went back into it the colors where all mess up I when into to color and set it at 256 but it didn't redo it but if you saved a .psp with a transparent canvas, then that is the reason for the checkboard background why it looked great until I came back and check it out juliaana..what resolution did you scan at? juliaanna, did you save as 256 colors gif or jpeg? 100 yes did you save as 256 gif? was it a photo? yes or a jpeg, compressed? try a jpeg on photos granny it is the on of the mountain I did awe okay try jpeg, don't compress so much, see if that helps she has awesome pics leapin, I have seen them, she is trying to get a web site up with them I will have to probably re scan it now check under options before saving the jpg juliaana juliaana, did you save as psp first? I try everything I knew last night to fix it make sure it isn't set too high juliaana, .jpg should almost always be used for photos juliaanna, if you saved as psp first, then go back to that one prior to saving as .jpg, click the options button you will not have to rescan and make sure the conpression is not too high katz sure send me an email with the url buzzball@netcom.ca and remind me to check it out no I save it as jpg I am in the java window and I thought that you couldnt see the cocor popus? I see them fine eagle hahaha http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Sauna/3773/ Session Close: Sun Feb 14 03:41:22 1999
