Although the creation of even a simple form may appear to be complex, setting up a data entry form or query view form is relatively easy.

To begin, select the New button with the Form tab in the foreground or alternatively select the New Form button from the drop-down New Object button. In the dialog box that appears, select Design View and in the pull down box select the table or query that the form will represent. After the selections, click on Ok.

Three windows will appear that will help in the creation of the form. The first is a grid with pixels indicated the many points within the form's panel. A second window that appears is a properties box that displays the properties of the selected items within the form design view. The third window is a representation of the table/query and its respective fields.

Three Displayed Windows

To create the labels and text boxes that are desired on the form, simply select the field within the table/query window and drag them over to the form panel contained within the form design view. This action will create a label and a corresponding text box that is bound to the table/query. To add further fields to the form panel, repeat the same step for each of the fields that are wanted on the form.

To size the labels, text boxes, or even the form panel, move the mouse cursor to any edge of the object that needs to be resized. When the arrow appears, click and resize the object. Movement of objects are similar to resizing with the exception that the cursor will turn into an open hand (allows movement of the text box and corresponding label, or vice versa) or with an index finger (moves only the individual object).

Much more can be accomplished in forms with some of the other controls that are present in Access. Feel free to experiment with some of the other controls, but they will not be covered in this section

To view the layout of the form, shift to form view. The text boxes will display the data contained in their particular fields. Movement from row entry to row entry can be accomplished through the data control found at the bottom of the form.
