Clairvoyance, the Art of Clear Seeing

It may be of some use to all who desire Spirit contact, to discuss at
this stage in our circle development, how we expect to see Spirit. Many
wonder why they do not appear as solidly as we see each other. Quite simply
the energy required for this feat depends upon the physical make up of the
onlooker. In the deceased’s determination to be seen by a loved one they may
gather enough material energy, from objects in the home, to enable them to
appear with some substance. However, this is rare and is in part dependant
upon the mediumistic qualities of the one they appear to. In certain types of
circle groups sitting for the development of physical phenomena, Spirit forms
can be seen by all present, irrespective of clairvoyant sight.
However, our discussion here is of Mental Mediumship, the ability to see
clairvoyantly with our inner sight. In the past many proficient, practising
Mediums took part in organized discussions on the subject of individual
perception. Although all share common threads, no two sensitives' receive
mental imagery in the same way. Therefore, I can only share my own
experiences here. My extreme sensitivity blends with that of the Spirit
communicator, and I feel like them. This enables me to describe the thought
pictures I perceive. The clarity of an overlaid impression, depends upon the
ability of the Spirit communicator to think with positive precision. An image
of how the person looked, during their life or before they passed into
Spirit, indelibly prints upon the surface of my mind. Sometimes a person
might have felt very overweight while still in the body, when in actual fact
loved ones saw them as slim and trim. In this case, confusion will occur when
the Medium describes a plump figure. Every other detail will fit a certain
loved one related to the client, but this is dismissed because they
remembered them as having a trim figure. Again, it must be remembered the
Spirit contact has no physical body, so what we are seeing is a thought
created picture of themselves as they were or as they thought they looked.
My prepared awareness, absorbs the projected image, with the speed of a
camera shutter. Developing and describing this imprint, is then the task
before me. The process demands my attention until, through persistence, I
have relayed all that is necessary. This requires me to work at it, until my
recipient acknowledges their recognition of the Spirit form being described.
Herein, lays the quality of good mediumship, if what is given by Spirit is
unrecognised by a sitter, the Medium must return to the Spirit communicator
for further information. Depending upon the team work of Spirit colleagues,
the Medium relies upon them to find a way to deliver information that can be
accepted. Undisciplined Mediumship leaves the Spirit contact unrecognised by
the client, and moves on.
Occasionally, my inner sight registers the presence of a personal Spirit
Guide. On the periphery of my field of awareness, they appear as a
transparent, shimmering image, comparable to a holographic projection. It is
essential for students, to surrender all preconceived notions, of how they
will see Spirit. In this manner our Guides can, through experimentation, find
the best possible way for us to work. One thing is certain, with constant
use, the ability to see Spirit evolves to a state of perception that defies
description. The mechanics involved, deliver evidential details of an
afterlife that qualifies the Medium's gift.
We do play a part in our imaging. Spirit uses that which is in our
rational mind and memory to expand and teach us. In everyday contact with
others, we perceive through our personal experiences and agendas. Gaining a
better concept of the various levels of our being, awakens us to the infinite
possibilities, of our consciousness and the outreaches of the mind. Without
this effort, we continue to function with the smallest portion of our selves
.
Spirit blends their consciousness with ours. If our mind is filled with
intelligence and a variety of interests, it holds a wider choice of
vocabulary and experience for Spirit to call upon. However, if we are full of
fear or religious guilt, we spoil all we receive with suspicion. An
antagonistic stream of thought, created by our imagination functioning on its
lowest level, always fills us with doubt. It destroys any attempt to gain
further proof and confirmation. This impedes our unfoldment and it may be
best in these circumstances to withdraw from this type of development.
Spirit contact requires loving cooperation. Love withers and dies in an
atmosphere poisoned by criticism. If we constantly find-fault with what we
perceive, our development ceases, until we can deal more honestly with
ourselves. This occurs with regularity in the person whose learning may have
been by rote. When presented with intangibles that defy description, this
mind-set is shaken by uncertainty. Words cannot describe Spirit contact. It
must be experienced for oneself and accepted according to our lights.
Therefore, our continuous attendence in a well run circle group unables
us to practise in safety our particular developing gift.
Hope this hurried eNewletter makes sense. I thought I had plenty of time
to comfortably edit it before our trip to London tomorrow. We are attending
my son David's wedding on May 5th and returning shortly after. But ......
that opposing force, human created had other ideas. Driving to collect a dear
friend who is house/pet sitting for us, I heard a strange noise from the
front of the car. The casing under the front of the car had come loose and
was dragging on the road. When I arrived at the airport to wait for her
plane an observant passager pointed out this large hanging drooping from the
front of my Volvo. Kneeling on the road way I tried to hook it backup,
when a well dressed good samaritain offered to duck tape it up for me! Which
proves one of two things. There are good people out there, and all men carry
ducktape!
This enabled me to get back home. Some minutes later a vandal through a
stone through the side window of the Volvo shattering the glasspane. Much
later that evening as I reached for my spectacles, which I had placed on my
head, I discovered one lens was missing. Can't find it anywhere and no time
to get it replaced. This wedding will be viewed through one eye. Are Well,
what can you do? No! no one is Spirit has given me a clue as to where to
find the thing. I think they have all gone ahead to the wedding.

In the telling.

After a suitable length of time spent in the Spirit orchestrated journey,
the group leader instructs members to slowly reel in the extended
consciousness to a place where they can comfortably open their eyes.
Shifting position in our chairs, or drinking from the glass of water provided
achieves the desired alertness. Working in a clockwise direction the leader
of the group asks each student to relate pertinent details of their experience.
In the telling much more reveals itself and in time we learn to
encapsulate In the experience into brief meaning. The wordy, pedantic
individual should be encouraged to share only the salient points especially
if the group is a large one. Keeping a personal journal helps some to record
details they were unable to speak of in depth. It is unnecessary in this
instance to reopen the awareness to the same degree when recalling details to
place in our journal. For all experiences are indelibly printed on the web of
our consciousness. The following are a few details from those who took part
in this exercise.
After choosing a room to enter, one member found her beloved grandfather
waiting behind the door of her choice. Another met a spirit Guide whom he had
not seen since his formative years when the guide had assured him they would
meet again. Although one student did not 'see' anything clearly she felt
uplifted by the a strong impression of the presence of a loved one who had
recently had recently passed into Spirit.
A newer group member experienced an array of swirling colours that left
her feeling lightheaded until she called upon her Spirit companions for help
in adjusting to this new vibration. They responded immediately, and she was
steadied by their help, which enabled her to complete the exercise.
Sharing experiences in the group setting is valuable as it uncovers
facets of inner seeing, which often are only revealed in the telling. There
may not have been a message of guidance in the journey, however, the per
ception has exercised itself in the safety of a well-run group and Spirit's
presence.
In the early stages of development many receive for the first time their
own evidence of a loved one's survival. A relative no longer in the physical
body, projects an image of themselves as they looked when last seen alive. Of
course, they no longer have a physical body, but common sense tells us we
must receive a recognizable image to know who they are. As this is a 'mind to
mind' communication they must create in thought all they wish to say to us.
It is important to realize that this may not be an easy process for our loved
one's to achieve. By making allowances for the difficulties of this task we
can meet them half way, by appreciating and encouraging their efforts.
In the capable hands of Spirit coworkers, exercises for personal
development and spiritual unfoldment expand the consciousness. In this
expansion the awareness can travel through vivid scenes created in thought by
Spirit. This is a controlled journey of the limitless consciousness, which
is not subject to the confines of time and space. One may walk through scenes
in ancient Rome, but still be aware of sitting in one's place in the "Ring of
Chairs."
There are no sensations of rushing through space to arrive at a Spirit
designated scene. Although these sensations may touch the physical self it
is the released consciousness that experiences the event.
Extended awareness, consciously controlled by the individual, can be
withdrawn from its extension at will. The physical self may register some
sensations as the awareness expands. Feelings of enlargement affecting the
head and fingers are common, and beginners are asked not to be alarmed when
experiencing this for the first time. The sensation does not continue for
many moments and is the result of ones energy registering the presence of a
Spirit companion. Not all students experience this, but it is wise to prepare
them before they become alarmed by the sensation.
As our development continues, Spirit reveals deeper meaning to the images
we see. In a journey instigated by Spirit, the contents are most often
symbolic. Allegory and symbol can tempt us into a different type of journey
in which we research for other meanings to a symbol. Watching an eagle soar
in a developing group experience, may lead us to a line of inquiry that
discovers, it is a symbol for great attainment. The eagle flies very high and
sees its goal in great detail. The symbol may also be a clue to a Guide’s
name; one who joins us to teach from his own knowledge.
Each moment of group work is put to good use. To sit for long periods in
unproductive silence, is not conducive to the development of mental
Mediumship. With time filled by structured exercises, Spirit advisers closely
monitor each student’s unfoldment. No time is left for idle chatting, or for
the mind to wander into avenues of unrelated thought.

It would be nice to hear from you with questions or comments relating to the
present theme of 'Circle Development.'

February 2001 Edition

With Spirit inspiration, and under the group leader's direction, a
journey of the consciousness can begin in our group setting. The everyday
mind needs to be transcended in order to function fully in extended
perception. A focal point for the awareness to focus on is useful, perhaps a
mist that slowly clears to reveal Spirit imagery. However, we must be ready
to move on from this point when our personal Spirit companions guide us
further. In this manner, the stimulated consciousness becomes actively
involved, in the unfolding Spirit imagery.
If the leader acts upon his own inspiration he can describe to the group,
images that Spirit places in his awareness. In his mind's eye he may see a
corridor before him. Large wooden doors line the passageway. Speaking aloud
of what he perceives, he leads the group into the scene. Their task is to
choose a door to enter. Once a door opens in response to their choice, each
group member crosses the threshold and enters the room beyond where a Spirit
communicator awaits them. At this juncture, the group leader leaves his
students to experience the Spirit orchestrated exercise.
This method of guidance, stimulates our brain-waves and thought processes
are set in motion. Once thought is activated Spirit operators place imagery,
relevant to each student, into the mechanism of extended sight. It is of
little benefit to our development, if we allow the mind to wander into other
avenues of thought. Each group member's task is to follow the exercise.
Later, comparing experiences members find they walked through similar scenes
that differ considerably in detail. The importance of imagery is manifold,
for it actively involves each of us to seek personal meaning.
It is important the leader does not give lengthy descriptions of the
scene in his mind's eye. He must not include every minute detail. Describing
a green armchair, confuses the student who sees, in their inner sight a blue,
straight backed chair. It seems an unimportant point, but many students
struggle with the concept that, it is Spirit placing imagery upon our mind's
reflective mirror. With experience the leader's choice of words will free
group members to see images, Spirit prepares for them personally. For
example, asking the group to find themselves in a holy place, where a Spirit
guide awaits them, gives a choice to which type of holy place Spirit wishes
them to see. Whereas, leading the group into a church of their choice, limits
Spirit imagery.
Remember, it is the heightened consciousness that travels into the
received or described imagery. These methods do not promote or require, an
out of body experience, where a projection of oneself invades the privacy of
another. A difference that must be experienced to be understood.
An exercise of this type is invaluable to early development. By sign
posting the way, Spirit slowly stretches the extended awareness at a pace
suitable to each individual. When the mind freely follows the images given,
momentum gathers and Spirit operators supply what is necessary for the
individual to see. For the more advanced student, who understand the
mechanics involved, it is enough to lead them into the energy provided by
Spirit, leaving them in Spirit's capable hands. Spirit responds to the
invitation to step closer into our field of awareness and when we acknowledge
their presence the visual experience begins.
Every student questions the results of their inner seeing and blames
imagination for the richness of extended sight. In time, with self-discipline
and Spirit's help, we learn to distinguish between our own thought creations
and Spirit ideas impressed upon the unruffled surface of our reflective mind.
Until then students are discouraged from criticizing themselves or their
inner seeing. Approaching their unfoldment with suspicion eventually destroys
the evidence of Spirit contact they are seeking.
In earlier development groups, members sat for long periods in placid
silence. Discouraging personal development, the group leader focused
attention on one or two trance Mediums' development. All other members of the
circle were assured of their usefulness when told they were power houses!
Mediumship and Spiritual Unfoldment are available to every student in the
methods suggested here.
Once aware of a Spirit presence we must work at our attunement to them.
By silently acknowledging, all we perceive or sense of their presence, they
are further encouraged to show us more. This is a "mind to mind" process in
need of our active participation. The person who eagerly responds to what
Spirit presents, in the journey of their consciousness, meets their
communicator halfway. By following the group leaders inspired direction,
images or scenes orchestrated by Spirit, allowed the individual's rational
mind to be activated. This created signposts for all to follow. Focusing
on these direction allowed Spirit operators to slot pictorial images,
appropriate to each persons unfoldment, onto the mirror of the mind.
Students are asked to hold the mind in a state of readiness, actively taking
part in all that Spirit has to show them.
This differs greatly from passive meditation where we are asked to
concentrate on a single rose or candle flame. Something, which has many
students struggling to clear the mind of all stray thoughts.
After a short period, under the leader's direction, group members slowly
return from their experiences. The extended consciousness can be reeled in as
one would reel in a kite and the value of learning to do this shows in future
unfoldment. The consciousness can always be consciously controlled by the
individual. When beginning my development in a circle group, I made the silly
mistake of thinking I had to reach a dreamy, lightheaded, hypnotic state in
order to see what Spirit had to show me. My kite flew to the extent of its
lengthy string. Of course, I achieved nothing other than a feeling of
disorientation. The group leader, a very fine Medium, recognized the symptoms
and loudly demanded my immediate return from the extended heights I had
reached. She told me to look at the Indian girl kneeling before me, which I
did. Astonished by the scenes clarity, I watched a young Indian girl kneeling
in the centre of a ring of Indian children. Intuitively I gathered that she
was teaching them signs and symbols representing her tribal law. This
experience proved very useful to me as a spiritual teacher, for I often
recognize similar misunderstandings in my student's attempts to attune to
Spirit.
Extended awareness is heightened awareness, but danger awaits the
uncontrolled individual who insists on opening themselves to all extraneous
influences, anywhere or anytime other than the group setting. By cooperating
with Spirit's directives, whether received directly or through the group
leader, our awareness grows surely and steadily without undue strain upon our
nervous system. In time, we need only a slight shift in our level of
consciousness to be aware of a Spirit presence. But, first we must recognize
and understanding the need for this gear change. It is under our control when
we allow this gear change to operate smoothly, quickly and naturally.

        January's eNewletter
   From:
        JCMedsp@aol.com

January 2001 Edition,

Sitting for mediumistic development in days of old, potential mediums and
those sitting to support them were expected to sit in silence. When one or
two group members showed signs of Spirit contact attention was focused on
their development, to the exclusion of the rest. Other sitters were expected
to be 'power houses' of support. At the suggestion of Spirit the following
method was tried and enlarged upon. It was explained that all who joined a
development group could benefit from taking part in Spirit inspired visual
journeys. . . . .
After a period of personal and absent healing, students take part in
exercises designed to strengthen their individual link with Spirit. During
this time of personal development the quality of energy differs from the
intensity of the healing power. It should be remembered however, that our
consciousness is under our control at all times. When we sense, the presence
of a Spirit companion close by the awareness has begun its extension. The
student is always free to withdraw from the experience, for it is an exercise
in cooperation with Spirit. Not, as some believe, possession by a discarnate
mind.
The surface of the mind when stilled by passive silence, reflects images
of strong thought directed by Spirit colleagues. If we acknowledge them with
our inner voice they respond by giving clearer images or further information.
Until we respond positively to their presence, they do not know we are aware
of them. Acknowledging the visual thought impressions, creates a stronger
mind to mind connection with our Spirit coworkers.
When sitting for Spiritual Unfoldment and the development of Mediumship,
do not hold the mind in a state of passive inactivity. Allowing the
consciousness to sink into a stupor is not the aim. When the inner dialogue
of the rational mind subsides, our consciousness expands unfettered by
mundane, unrelated thought. Free from interruption the mind becomes
receptively alert, actively alive and poised in its awareness. A stilled pool
of water clearly reflects that, which is above it. In the same manner, Spirit
reflects thought images for us to receive upon the stilled surface of our
mind.
Exercises that strengthen our links with Spirit colleagues are essential
to the development of Mediumship. It is a method of Mediumistic training that
forms a foundation for Spirit communication. Gentle sensory expansion hones
the perception without straining the nervous system. Forced psychic
development however, thins the protective web surrounding the consciousness.
Serious students avoid courses promising instant psychic awareness, knowing
development comes only through slow but steady progress. Even with a natural
gift, it is essential to learn to govern the sensitivity in the safety of the
development group setting.
As awareness expands and blends in harmony with others in the developing
group, students may experience unfamiliar sensations. A temperature change is
sometimes felt that chills the lower legs and feet, while the air above
remains warm. This is quite common when the healing power is replaced to
facilitate an exercise for personal development.
We must remind ourselves we are experiencing vibrations utilized by
Spirit operators. In an altered state of awareness, students begin to
register the presence of different energies merging with their own.
Experiencing feelings of enlargement in the fingers or hands, signals the
expansion of our consciousness. This sensation plagued my childhood until my
development as a Medium began in earnest. Then the once familiar feelings
were recognised and understood.
These sensations are common, but often mistaken for out of body
projections. Consciousness, is expanding beyond its normal limitations, and
we feel the physical body’s density as our vibrations rise. Familiarity with
the process, leaves us undisturbed when a higher frequency joins ours and
Spirit steps, into our extended field of energy. If however, this becomes
distressing, it is easily altered by asking for Spirit’s help. Plain,
drinking water supplied to each group sitter, is also a reviver and quickly
changes the level of awareness.
My experience is that several Spirit coworker’s draw near to each sitter.
As a band, their collective energy forms a mantle. Concentrated, in alignment
to our spinal energy, it surrounds us from our left to right sides, gently
holding us in a half circle of intensely focused Spirit energy. It is a
useful exercise to discern this process as it takes place. Students may find
it easier to watch changes occurring around other group members.

        December's eNewletter

        JCMedsp@aol.com

December Edition
Christmas Eve

Having received personal Spiritual Healing in our circle group setting,
we must now give to others. Concentrating on the ever increasing healing
power manifesting in the group setting, students place friends, family and
acquaintances by name in the healing power. Many keep a journal, in which
they write the names of those in need of continued healing. They mentally
hold this in the healing light.
A great reservoir of healing power is constantly replenish with our
thoughts and healing prayers, which must be free from all personal desires.
This can be drawn upon by those who need strength and courage. In humility we
are aware we cannot do this alone, but in cooperation with Healing Guides,
our thoughts join the multitudes in Spirit who direct this God force.
Placing people by name in the healing power is called Absent Healing; it
is remarkably effective although the person is at a distance. Focusing on the
person's spoken name also helps our inner perception to unfold. Students may
receive impressions, of the person named, from Spirit Healing Guides. Others
may develop a healing gift while sitting in a development group. Healers
trained by Spirit learn how to attune to their Spirit counterparts. Using the
same cooperation needed for Spirit communication they learn to surrender to
Spirit's directive. This enables them to be a pure, clear conduit. The same
format suggested for development circle groups will assist the work of a
Healing Circle group.
The power of healing prayer accomplishes a great deal, but our prayers
must be free from personal desires. If we pray for anything other than
strength and courage for the one who suffers, we are usurping the Will of God
and interfering with an individual Soul's purpose. We must constantly
remember, our desired outcome may not be the best choice for the Soul passing
through a difficult experience. This is particularly difficult to accept when
a child is suffering. It can help, if we remind ourselves that prayers for
their strength and courage, add to the loving care of healers in Spirit, who
support and comfort them.
Healing power, can help the terminally ill to surrender and peacefully
let go. The very special person inhabiting a diseased or crippled body, is
often a highly evolved Soul, supplying others with opportunities to gain
patience, compassion and understanding. These qualities, become part of our
Soul, once experienced in great depth. We can only guess, which choices a
Soul makes. However, we must consider the Soul growth gained by each person
associated with the sufferer. In our absent healing, we pray for strength and
courage to be available to all who struggle and all who support them.
To complete this ceremony of healing in the group we send healing to all
who walk upon this earth asking that all will raise their consciousness to
the plight of the poorest of the poor and the least amoung us. I believe we
cannot hope for spiritual growth unless we turn to lend a helping hand to
others. Lately, I find another thought entering my consciousness. And that
is the realization that the most helpless amoung us are in the animal
kingdom. You may not agree with me, but I believe we must speak for them,
they have no voice of their own. Until we treat this life-form with respect
and defend their right to be, we cannot move forward in our understanding of
the life force or hope for peace of mind.
The following observation came in a Christmas Greeting from a Medium in
Australia.
Doug Osbourne writes
(I always enjoy the spiritual vibrations at this time of the year, as I feel
the Spirit Realm is closer due to everyone extending good thoughts to each
other. This creates a 'lighter' atmosphere around our planet at this time
each year. What a pity we couldn't maintain it..! )
It reminded me of a childhood experience when a Spirit Circle Guide
explained to my family that it is the one time in the year when we
collectively remember friends, family and acquaintances and contact them with
seasons greetings. Many religions celebrate with ceremonies at this time of
the year. Because, "Our thoughts are living things" an outpouring of
goodwill rises from the earthplane. Spirit puts this positive energy to good
use. As my friend said, what a pity we cannot maintain goodwill to all
living things throughout the year.

        November's eNewsletter
   From:
        JCMedsp@aol.com

November Edition

Each step taken in our HomeCircle development group leads the sitter
through a series of attunements. Each attunement raises our vibrational
frequency to another level. The first attunement connected us to the
Spiritual Self, the Divine Guest residing within. Our group prayer helped
each member to an awareness of an upper circle of Spirit coworkers waiting
patiently for our work to begin. At this stage another attunement is made to
the Healing Power that can be seen by some as it descends upon the group.
Many years ago, in the first group I led I was made aware of the
presence of this healing energy. I was also instructed to lead my group
members through a healing process that would, primarily, strengthen each
persons nervous system. All work in altered states of awareness places a
strain upon the nervous system if the student rushes ahead with little or no
caution. The individual who paces themselves with self discipline builds a
firmer foundation for future consciousness expansion. So the following
personal healing evolved into the method I use today and share with you in
this newletter edition.
Each step adds another change in our vibrational frequency. With the
help of healers in Spirit the healing power is first directed to our physical
body. It replenishes the life force within our physical self, and each cell
responds to the healing energy. Visualize the presence of this healing power
coursing through your body, removing all that is detrimental to your
wellbeing, and strengthening the nervous system.
Healing directed to the emotional self is the next step. First, I must
explain what I mean by the emotional self. It is that, which we create with
the extremes of our emotional nature. If our emotions are allowed to rule, an
imbalance is created in our nature. I have seen this clairvoyantly as an
after-image that is constricting in size and cumbersome in nature. Where
there are extremes of fear, anxiety or dread the emotional self defeats our
natural curiosity and joy for life. It is difficult to measure the effects
of uncontrolled and undisciplined emotions on the physical body. The ability
to forge a strong connection with Spirit is restricted until self mastery
finds an inner strength. It is not a question of suppressing the emotions
but of keeping them in due bounds.
Another constricting layer is created by our undisciplined thought
patterns. With the help of this healing energy we can clear the mirror of
the mind so that it receives all that is reflected upon it by teachers in
Spirit. We waste a great deal of energy by not thinking constructively.
Thoughts are living things and we must always use them wisely.
A wonderful alignment is achieved in this process of personal healing.
With constant use we automatically seek this natural state of being for it
allows the Spiritual Self to stand tall throughout our various selves. In
this state of perfect alignment the healing power can also assist us to free
the consciousness. For we perceive with clarity when we can transcend the
confines of the rational, critical, everyday mind.
I will continue this theme of Spiritual Healing next month when we look
at Absent Healing in our group setting.
Happy Holidays

September Edition) each group member is ready to contribute to the harmonious
conditions essential for contact with Spirit. From the deep centering
achieved in the previous exercise comes a unity of self that enables us to
cooperate with each other and our coworkers in Spirit.
All work with Spirit must begin with a prayer. A prayer naturally changes
our level of awareness and vibrational frequency by lifting our thoughts
towards the Godhead. There is no better method of opening one's awareness
than with prayer. It enfolds us and the group in the light of the Great
Spirit. Nothing can pass through this enfolding light unless it is of the
same calibre as those who join in prayer. The auric field of energy, which
settled during our inner journey, now spreads outwardly blending with persons
sitting either side of us. It’s light reflects the degree of attunement each
student makes.
If we open our awareness to inspirational thoughts from Spirit, the
prayer flows with natural energy. Whether one individual gives the prayer
each week, is a matter of choice. If alternated between members difficulties
can arise. The person whose turn it is to open in prayer, either rehearses
beforehand, or is unexpectedly called out of town that week!
Spirit suggested a method for opening circle work in prayer, which proved
to be very useful. More than the spoken word occurs when using this
collective prayer. By joining hands in The Ring of Chairs a continuation of
power passes on as each person contributes one or two sentences. Moving in a
clockwise direction, the theme of the prayer continues and Spirit light
secures the circle. The group leader can choose who shall begin the prayer.
It is essential the prayer is not restarted halfway round the group.
Although this sounds obvious, it happens frequently. Breaking the prayer’s
continuity defeats the purpose of the exercise, which is to raise the
awareness of all who are present. The opening prayer is to open the group’s
level of consciousness; so each persons contribution of a sentence of two
must be to open the group. Likewise, the closing prayer is the place to give
grateful thanks to all who have joined us from those unseen realms, and to
bring each group member back to their driving home consciousness.
Some group members pray for protection, but when questioned are never
sure from whom they need protecting. Like attracts like, if our aspirations
are of the highest then like-minded spiritual teachers are attracted to the
quality of light emanating from the circle group. A quality created and
maintained by the endeavours of all who join in prayer. We mostly need
protection from ourselves and our ego. I have never feared Spirit friends but
have often feared humankind and their machinations.
With practice, this method of group participation in the opening prayer,
brings wonderful results. Seen clairvoyantly, light passes from member to
member as the theme smoothly continues around the circle. It opens our
awareness to an Upper Circle, which reflects each group that gathers in the
sight of the Great Spirit. Next month we will attune to the healing power
available to us all in our group setting.

September Edition

So we have chosen the place, time and a good leader for our group. Now
we must plan the structure of our work during the time we sit for
development. Personally, I like to begin with an exercise that brings us all
to the same place. It is this exercise that I would like to share with you
in this edition.
In all work that achieves an altered state of consciousness we must begin
by creating a peacefullness around us. Most students lead hectic lives and
arrive for their group session in a state of flux. Seen clairvoyantly their
energy field looks like a migraine attack. Taking a few moments to allow the
auric energy to settle helps considerably. Once this is achieved, the "Inner
Journey" can begin. What about opening in prayer? That comes later, after
this important attunement.
We are all of Spirit each living thing holds a spark of the Divine
within. A Divine Guest that lights the Soul but remains dormant until we
stir it into manifestation. We must acknowledge its presence and invite it
to take part in our lives. It is the Spiritual Self, which has accompanied
the Soul in all its experiences, constantly striving to remind the
personality of the Soul's purpose. Attuning to this aspect of one's self is
essential, for learning to centre in this source of power gives us a head
start in our spiritual unfoldment. First, we must discover and know the
'Self' a requirement of all candidates for initiation. Awakening does not
begin with the intellect but rather with the personal experience of the core
of power within.
To access this experience I lead the group on an inner journey to a
temple within themselves. The first journey of consciousness calls for a
surrendering of the smaller 'self'. It is done by leaving our material
concerns outside of our awareness. Switching the focus of our consciousness
from the material reality, frees it to travel into the presence of the
Spiritual Self, the Divinity within. This inward journey aligns the various
selves, and the interior silence allows the Spiritual Self to respond in
symbols and allegory.
With thoughts focused on the inner journey we enter the inner sanctum of
the Spiritual Self. We tread upon our own sacred ground and experience the
Divinity's embrace of unconditional love. This inner splendour, renews us
with peaceful tranquility, poise and serenity of mind. From this state of
consciousness the group becomes of one mind, a unity of thought. Now we join
hands in our "Ring of Chairs" and begin our work in prayer.
Many students ask me whether the above exercise can safely be used in
their daily meditations. I think it is very suitable for it does not extend
the consciousness to the heightened awareness that other group circle work
achieves. It is a very focused exercise and can be used to familiarize one's
self with the God within. The strange thing is, that in time, with constant
use, the journey to this inner temple is very short. The Spiritual Self is
immediately available and constantly nearby. We walk taller, more secure in
our decisions and exceptance of ourselves. In the coming months I will
continue with suggestions for your group circle work.

August Edition

This month continues my theme of 'Circle' development by looking at the
problem of where to hold the regular weekly circle. If you are lucky enough
to have a spare room that is used for nothing other than your circle, you are
indeed well blessed. But most of us have to make do, by utilizing what we
have. Nevertheless, as long as they are made welcome our Spirit colleagues
join us where ever we manage to gather together. It does help if the room can
be prepared before time by setting up the required amount of chairs and
making sure the room is clean and free of cigarette smoke. Something that is
not only detrimental to our health but is an irritation to the folk in
Spirit. If the room can be left free of activity until the group begins so
much the better.
My weekly groups are held in a very large basement, a feature found in
most American homes. The chairs remain in a ring and the energy created by
our work collects, accumulates and remains in the circle area. Often, as I
pass on my way to the laundry room, I catch a glimpse of the tangible misty
energy surrounding this space. My chairs are the regular folding type. Not
very attractive, but a good colourful pad and back support cheers the
setting. I have always thought this type of chair was rather uncomfortable
until I began to replace them with wooden framed, upholstered seats.
Everyone complained. It became apparent to all of us that the folding chairs
provide adequate support and we could comfortably place both feet on the
ground. This allowed the spine to remain erect allowing the natural flow of
energies within and around us. This will make perfect sense to those who have
studied the Eastern Chakra theory of energy rising up along the spine
activating the various energy centres.
Another debatable point of some interest is who sits where in the circle.
I keep my regular seat, one that allows me to have my back to the wall.
Don't ask me why, but it gives me a sense of added security. Over the years
many have joined my groups, stayed for a long time and them moved on,
sometimes returning when the realize something is missing in their lives!
The regulars get to keep the same seats which I have assigned them. Usually
because I can see clairvoyantly that they do or do not blend well with those
sitting on either side of them. There really is no need to be overly
concerned about this by trying to determine who is positive or negative. With
time, if we rely on Spirit inspiration, everything comes together nicely.
Some tend to take this too seriously and insist upon joining hands with their
neighbours with one palm held up and one held down. This theory, I think, is
to allow the correct flow of energy. I suggest they study some of the earlier
Spirit phenomena that took place without these unneccesary accruements. When
a newcomer joins I sit them on my right hand side so I can keep an eye on and
encourage them in their beginning stages.
It must be said, that each and every group member helps to build the
conditions necessary for Spirit contact. The level and quality of contact
depends upon each sitter's aims and intentions. Therefore, it is essential to
the well-being of all group members that each stage of opening the group,
extending our consciousness and cooperating with Spirit is followed
religiously. Many will pray for protection in their opening prayer but when
asked they are not too sure of what might be detrimental. Mostly, I would say
we need protecting from ourselves and some of the silly ideas that cling to
this type of work. A necessary discipline that is often overlooked is that
our nervous system must be strengthened as our consciousness reaches to
greater heights. Therefore, slowly does it. Proceed with caution but be free
from fear.
I was invited to sit in a local circle group recently where this
discipline and structure was ignored. There was a chaotic atmosphere which
made me feel very ill at ease. The undisciplined approach to their work
showed in very poor attunement and Spirit contact. Often, this is compounded
by silly practices. On this occasion we were all instruct by the group leader
to scratch the top of our heads to stimulate the crown chakra!! Another
situation to be avoided if you wish to protect your budding mediumistic gifts
is the church "open circle". The unstructured setup of these gatherings is
an open doorway for many negative influences. Yes, I have heard of some
mediums whose trance state originated from such an occasion, but their safety
was due no doubt, to their Spirit Guide's calibre, not to the hit and miss
affair of the 'open circle".
In the months ahead I will share the format I use to open our group and
the work we do during the one and half hours that we sit for mediumistic
development.

        July's eNewletter
   From:
        JCMedsp@aol.com

July Edition.

Last month I wrote about the importance of a competent leader for your
Mediumship Development Group. This month I would like to explore the role of
those who sit for development.
Someone asked if two people sitting together would class as a group and I
assured them that it is a good place to start. With spirit orchestration,
other's will be prompted to join. An ideal number would be six sitters plus
the leader. Anything larger than that needs an experienced leader to keep
order. Excepting a new group member needs careful consideration. Even feeling
the person has been led by Spirit, it is the leader's choice whether they
will be a suitable addition to the group, blending nicely with existing
members. Harmony is essential to our work with Spirit. If one person feels
ill at ease with another's personality or mannerism it can spoil the
harmonious conditions Spirit hopes to achieve.
It is beneficial to meet with the perspective student before they join
the development group. This allows the leader to explain the nature of their
group work, it's aims and goals. Whether they are sitting for a particular
type of Mediumship development which, includes Spiritual Unfoldment, or, if
the group's interest lies in other directions. Determining the new sitter's
interest and reasons for wanting to join, at this time, can help to avoid
later difficulties. Have they a genuine interest in spiritual matters or,
are they simply curious about the work? Adding a new member disturbs the
existing harmony, or adds to it. An upbeat, pleasant personality brings a
positive effect that can enliven the group energy. Whereas someone with a
negative, critical approach dampens the proceedings.
Each member of the group must have a committment to persevere in their
development, and patience to follow through, when the feel they have hit a
plateau. Each student is individual and only Spirit Guides can decide how
best to awaken these latent gifts. Other Mediums may have spoken of your
strong healing gift which, needs developing or a latent gift for trance work.
However, these expectation should be left to one side when joining a
development group in favour of Spirit's plan. The potential for these gifts
may take time to come to fruition, for several reasons.
One of the most common reasons, is the student's inability to follow
instructions and "stick with the program". If they cannot cooperate and
follow simple directions from a group leader, then they will not be able to
follow Spirit's directions. All work with Spirit requires cooperation! We
are coworkers with Spirit counterparts, cooperating in the Great Spirit's
plan. Other reasons may lie within the student's personality. An inability
to quieten the mind and surrender to the process of attunement delays
development. The overactive, emotional individual must first learn to govern
the emotional self with self mastery before the gift unfolds. Superstition
should be discouraged in all sitters by insisting they refrain from seeing
horror movies. Dwelling on the negative aspects of illness and suffering also
lowers the vibrational frequency necessary to Spirit attunement. It
constantly amazes me the amount of people who think Mediums are only
interested in rescuing the so called earth bound. Personally I would like to
know my teaching opened people's eyes to the reality of the afterlife and the
beauty of the Spirit world. A world that is intimately iinvolved with our
own.
The practicing Psychic who is used to attuning to their client's energy
has difficulty fitting into the development group. They often resent the
strict adherence to Spiritual Unfoldment before message giving and this can
create a challenge to the format and discipline of the group work. There are
Spiritual Laws that require us to seek Soul refinement and spiritual
knowledge, along with our mediumistic development.
Most importantly, it must be said that the group leader only provides the
opportunity and safe environment for each persons development. No one can
bestow the gift of Mediumship on another. We can teach from our own
experiences but it is Spirit that trains the Medium. Without the strongly
forged link with our coworker in the Spirit reality we are nothing. Finally
all group members should respect a rule of confidentiality. Personal matters
revealed in this intimate work are confidential and should not be repeated
outside the group. Neither should the work of the group be a subject for
discussion with outsiders. In your personal development act with dignity.
The first sign of a true traveller on a pathway of self-discovery is their Sil
ence.

June 2000 Edition

It is not necessary to have a Medium to run a Home Circle development
group. However, it is essential to have a sensible leader. Many people would
love to start a development group of their own but are reluctant to do so
because they do not have a Medium to act as leader. This self defeatist
attitude forgets that Spirit responds when we genuinely wish to forge
stronger links with the Spirit reality. It is not necessary for the group
leader to have clairvoyant sight, but they must be willing to act upon their
'inner prompting.' This is how Spirit inspires us; we just need to listen
and follow through with our inspirations. The group leader must be strong
enough to take the reins and have achieved some measure of personal
self-discipline. A practical person with common sense is far better than one
whose knowledge comes from how-to books they have digested.
The leader must have a flexible mind. A rigid approach that insists upon
doing things as they have been done in the past, excludes all possibilities
for Spirit's guidance. Part of the leader's responsibilities is to see that
the group starts and finishes on time. He or she, must remind members to
keep to the point of gathering together. Not allowing sessions to become a
social event where some come to chat or moan about their lives. It is unwise
to let a group meeting regularly for Spiritual Unfoldment and Mediumistic
development to deteriorate into personal therapy sessions.
It is up to the group leader, to insist members arrive with minutes to
spare, before the designated starting time. This allows the work to begin
smoothly, without interruption. Late comers should not disturb the group once
it has begun. As our sensitivity grows it is easily shocked by sudden noise
and the telephone or doorbell disrupts the carefully prepared tranquillity of
the group setting. Personally, I find it unwise to allow members to linger
after the group session. As a group leader I feel very drained if expected
to discuss personal problems or matters concerning the group once the session
is over. Rehashing personal group experiences reopens the carefully closed
doors of awareness again, leaving the sensitivity vulnerable to extraneous
influences. How silly to reopen one's awareness, when most members have to
drive home being fully alert and awake.
The perfect development group should consist of like-minded individuals
who join together to do the work of Spirit. Each sitter is supportive and
all delight in one another's success. Those who are competitive soon lose
interest and have moved on to other subjects. Others, who imagined there are
set patterns to this development and their progress, discover Spirit tailors
this unique work to everyone's particular needs. Courses One, Two and Three
do not exist in the circle development group and personal growth must not be
compared to another's development. Course work or homework is not required.
However, a greater sense of personal awareness is soon apparent when we begin
to incorporate what we learn into our daily lives.
Essential to our unfoldment is the slow but steady strengthening of the
nervous system. A highly charged emotional self can delay clarity of inner
seeing. When the emotions are steadied with self-mastery, they become our
friends and not our masters. Until strong links are forged between student
and Spirit coworker it is essential to keep one's development to the regular
circle group meeting. I have had some sitters, who, in their eagerness to
understand all there is to know, read as much as they can on this subject.
This does not bring the effect they desire, but rather the opposite one of
over tiredness and inability to sleep or think clearly. The best approach is
one of cautious optimism. This allows us to enjoy the journey and reap the
wonderful benefits of Spirit's presence.
In the coming months I will continue this theme of "Home Circle Groups"
sharing my experiences of Spiritual Unfoldment and Mediumistic development.
All and any comments are more than welcome.

        May 2000 eNewletter

        JCMedsp@aol.com

May 2000 Edition

The Mediumship development ˜Circle" is the bedrock of Spirit
communication and Spiritualism. Creating a safe environment where all sitters
can open their awareness is essential. If well run, they will also learn to
close the extended consciousness when the group ends. In my experience, only
Spirit can train a Medium to be a clear conduit for communication. But the
weekly group session provides the means by which a closer contact can be
formed with Spirit Guides who teach and train us. Even if the gift is a
natural one of clear seeing or clear hearing the corresponding sensitivity
needs managing with self discipline. Neglecting this leaves the individual as
an ever open door inviting all and sundry to enter.
Regular attendance in a weekly "Circle" also provides an opportunity for
Spiritual Unfoldment, which is an essential component to our work with
Spirit. During the past 15 years many have gravitated to my groups seeking a
better understanding of the "Self", rather than wanting to be Mediums in the
accepted sense of the word. Recognising this to be the first important step
in our development I have welcomed the presence of these students and enjoyed
their contribution to the groups. Each has forged a strong link with
Spirit.and this has brought a realization of Spiritâ's close, intimate,
presence in our lives.
As the majority of my students come from the "care" fields, the common
denominator that binds them as a group is their desire “to serve. Doctors,
nurses, psychologist, therapist, lawyers, social workers and several artists
have joined and continue to attend one of three, weekly groups run by me. You
may wonder how a strongly forged personal link with Spirit has helped their
professions. For they do not desire to bring Soul survival evidence to their
clients or patients such as a Spiritualist Medium would do. Nevertheless, a
new dimension of understanding enhances their work and inspiration from
Spirit is always apparent. Where we are . . . so Spirit can also be.
Meaning, there are numerous ways in which to cooperate with and do the work
of the Great Spirit.
Considering the spiritual law of "˜like attracting like" my mother firmly
believed that behind every doctor practicing his craft on earth, stood many
like-minded Spirit doctors, intent on sharing ideas and knowledge. We also
learned in our home "Circle" behind every man enjoying a pint of beer at the
local pub, stood many more like-minded Souls in the afterlife enjoying the
experience. So there is another side to the coin to consider!
Through their development all group members have found a source of strengt
h in the Spiritual Self within, which has supported their chosen career of
caring for others. In the Aids epidemic a patient's fear of death was
addressed by those who knew of the Soul's continuous existence in the
afterlife. One highlighted moment was with a Cancer Doctor, an Oncologist who
had a private reading with me. As the session drew to a close he asked What
shall I tell my patients when they are about to die Simply tell them not
to be afraid I replied, “they are going home to a wonderful reunion with
friends and relatives who have gone ahead of them.
                        ******
Have you noticed how some people on the fringe of this understanding are
so superstitious? Seduced by tales of haunting, exorcisms and
extraterrestrial visitations, suggests they be discouraged from psychic
development until they willingly reach for a higher understanding. Very often
it implies an unbalanced mind that likes to be frightened. On inquiry a love
of sci-fi movies and horror stories is often discovered.
The belief that a Medium calls up the dead is a misconception promoted by
Hollywood and the media. Struggling along a dark tunnel towards the light, at
the moment of death, is another. Assuming that a Medium gets their
information by reading the mind of their sitter, is ignorance at it's worse.
Assuming we would want to, is even more insulting. Listening to an American
radio broadcast today I bristled at a caller's request of the Medium being
interviewed. The caller said he held a copy of the yellow pages that he would
open randomly. The Medium was expected to grab a copy of the telephone book,
which he assumed must be close by. By reading his mind she would open her
volume to the same page as his. He had devised this to test her abilities.
What can be done to bring Spirit Communication and Spiritual Unfoldment
out of the dark ages and into the light of everyone's understanding? Maybe
we should use different words to express our work. For instance instead of
calling a session a Private Reading, which suggests we are reading something,
we should call the session a Private Spirit Communication. This will dispel
the misconception that we are reading the client, as many believe. Should we
drop the word Psychic and all its present day connotations? Calling ourselves
a Channeler, just won't do.
Having found personal proof of a loved one's survival beyond death, we
can educate others in the simplicity of our search for evidence. Those who
are vehicles for the Great Spirit's work should be educated with a detailed
understanding of the mechanics of Spirit communication. If we do not know how
it works we should ask our Spirit coworkers to show us. Then we can teach
others. It is really the only way to bring about a more respectful attitude
to this wonderful truth.
