Perfect Buzzcuts Volume 1 is Scerbo Video Productions second instructional videotape. Released early in 1997 it shows a range of clipper cutting techniques and styles.

The videotape runs for 38 minutes. The soundtrack on the tape is classical music with a voiceover describing the cutting techniques being shown. The tape shows ten different styles being cut. This is clearly an instructional videotape. It doesn't show the haircuts taking place from beginning to end, but focuses on showing the fundamentals of the style and the techniques used to cut that style, as well as showing you the finished product.

The first segment shows the cutting of a squareback. This gives an example of how to tidy up at the back and sides between haircuts. The subject in the video has quite short back and sides to start with. Only the hairline across the back of the head and around the ears is cut.

In the second cut, the same cut shown in the first segment is cut shorter into a low fade. At this point, the tape shows some techniques associated with tapering or fading of the hair at the bottom of the now much higher hairline. The curvature of the fade hairline around the ears is also shown.

The third cut continues with the same subject shown in the first two segments. The cut is taken to a high and tight. Again the tapering effect is again demonstrated. In this example of the high and tight, the hair is left quite long, rather than cut in a military high and tight style.

The fourth cut shows the cutting of a fairly long flattop with high and tight sides. The techniques shown include how the prepare the hair so that it stands up during the cut and how to cut the flattop to ensure that the top is flat and that no stray longer hairs remain.

The fifth segment shows a short brush cut. The subject shown in this segment has a long brushcut to start with. The back and sides are cut with a #1 (1/8" inch) attachment. The top is cut with a #4 attachment, leaving the hair on top 1/2" in length. A technique for blending the #4 on top with the #1 is then shown. While the finished product looks quite like a standard crewcut, the videotape shows how some mousse can be used to give a more brush-like appearance. Finally, the back and sides are squared-off.

In the sixth segment, a standard #2 all over crewcut is shown. The subject shown in this segment starts with longer hair than most of the other subjects in this tape. This is a straight-forward style to cut, because there is no tapering or fading done. The hair is cut to an even 1/4 inch all over and the back and sides are squared off.

The seventh cut is a shorter crewcut. It is still a #2 on top, but the back and sides are cut as a fade (high and tight style). Attention is given to the cutting of the fade showing how the hair length is blended. Finally, the technique of creating a cut (shaved) part is shown.

The final three segments show different bowl cuts. A standard dipped bowl cut is shown in the eighth segment. This segment shows how to cut the bowl cut line using clippers and how to cut the bangs (with scissors) to get an even length across the front. The ninth segment is an undercut bowl cut. The advantages of an undercut are discussed as well as the techniques used to cut it. The final segment shows the cutting of a squareback bowlcut. This is another undercut, but instead of the hair being cut to the skin, as it was in the previous two bowlcuts, the hair below the "bowl" area of the style is cut with a #1 clipper and is then squared off at the back.

So there you have it. Ten cuts shown in 38 minutes. This instructional videotape shows many popular styles, especially for boys and younger teenagers. If you have decided to cut your family's hair, you should considering purchasing this videotape from Scerbo Video Productions.
