of pride in my work and it shows in my clients loyalty to me. I plan on
being a barber for many years to come as I'm only 35 yrs old. Please come

The Barber Shop
995 Smithe Street, Vancouver, BC V6Z 2K9 (Just off Burrard
on Smithe)
Phone: (604) 688-7032
I visited this fine establishment for the first time a couple days ago
and received the best short flattop I've ever had! I'll definately go back
for my next cut in a week or two. It even says "We do flattops" on the
front window. These guys put a lot of effort into making it just right.
I've been getting a flattop done about every two weeks since October,
with thanks to Buzztown for the encouragement for me to go ahead with such
a cut... I love it, it's easy to take care of, and others seem to like
it too.

Ontario
Franco's Barber Shop
Cnr. Wellington and Highway Six, Guelph, ON, Canada
"For a decent place in Guelph Ontario, the best I've found is Franco's
Barber Shop at the corner of Wellinton and Highway Six in the plaza across
from Taco Bell and the other fast food places just down the hill from the
Church of Our Lady.
There's four chairs, three of which are run by older barbers (since
the 1960's) and one by a younger barber. They do shaves too. A shave and
a haircut was $22.00 (Canadian dollars) so the haircut is probably about
$11.00."
Gus & Son
King Street, Hamilton, ON, Canada
"If you want a decent Barbershop in Hamilton Ontario, check out "Gus &
Son" on King Street three blocks East of the Delta on the right hand side.
Be sure when passing Gage Park to cut off to the right where main &
King divide, look for the sign he usually has on the sidewalk.
Gus is an older barber who's been cutting hair for years who has trained
his son how to cut hair. The chairs are the old black leather with white
enamel and when I was there, he had a range of manual clippers on display
in front of the mirrior (display only, the buzz was electric).
Whenever I've driven by there's usually young guys in the chair. I got
a great brushcut there with a landing strip."
Paul's Olde Tyme Barber Shoppe
231 Hunter W, Peterborough, ON, Canada
Phone: (705) 876-6837
I have an old time barber shop in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. and am
known as the best place around for short haicuts, flattops being a specialty
of the house. I have been a barber for 26 years and styled my shop on the
old barber shops which are a gathering place to exchange news and gossip
as well as get a haircut. There is even a park bench at the front so people
waiting can sit in the sun and gossip or watch the girls go by. I also
have free Internet access for customers while they wait they can surf or
send emails to friends if they don't have Internet access at home. Peterborough
is home to Trent University and Sir Sanford Flemming College so there are
a lot of students around.
Victoria
Barber Shop
9 O'Connor Street, (near Parliament Hill) Ottawa

Here is a place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada that does excellent flattops,
near the US Embassy; many guys from the States go there. Ask for
Patrick, he does good flat tops with white walls or landing strips.

Ziggy's Hair Studio
2nd Floor Unicenter, Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada
Phone: (613) 731-3555
Ziggy's Hair Studio sent the following recommendation of their shop. Ziggy's
has the honor of being the first barber shop outside the U.S. to be recommended
to Buzztown.
"The best flat top in Canada can be found in Ottawa Ontario. ZIGGYS
hair studio located on the campus of Carleton University is a shop that
I would like to see included on your list. Ziggy, Peter, Carol and Victoria
would love to invite clients to visit us. Our patented
"lazer-eye" technique ensures the perfect "milk carton" look to all
our flat tops."
White Star Barber Shop
King Street, Waterloo, ON, Canada
"The best barber in Kitchener-Waterloo is Bruce Martz at White Star Barber
Shop in Waterloo. He gives basic options of a College Cut, (longer version
of an Ivy League), a Semi-Brushcut and a brushcut. On the sides and back
there is either Square back, coarse clippers or (my favourite) "down to
the wood". Regulars know how to combine these so that say you want a high
& tight, that would be a brushcut, down to the wood. You get the idea.
Bruce is on King street in Waterloo, three or four blocks from Waterloo
Town Square going towards the University on the right hand side. He's very
popular so expect a wait most times. Haircuts are $11.00 Canadian."

Quebec
Salon Naviles
Chemin des Quatres Bourgeois, Sainte-Foy, QC, Canada
Phone: (418) 653-4283
Thanks to the Buzztown reader who sent in details of this Canadian barber
shop.
"I would like to suggest to you a barber shop in the Quebec City area.
The owner of the barber shop is Leopold and he is the best of the two barbers
with his clippers. He does very very good job with tapered cuts. I saw
your pictures and no one is as great as Leopold's job."
