In Loving Memory

Richard Lee (Ricky) Shiar

April 7, 1963 - July 15, 1992

Ricky was one of the most remarkable young men that you would want to meet in your life. He came from God to me and my wife as one of three children we were blessed with having in our lives. Ricky was born mentally and physically handicapped
with a lot of problems to overcome in his short life here on earth. But the joy and love he gave me and my wife and brother and sister is beyond anything that you can measure.?

?

He could not talk to make a conversation with any one, but oh, did he show us what love was all about. He could only walk a little during his life and had to be in a wheel chair most of his life. He was unable to be a father, a husband, drive a car or have a job in his life but God sent him to us to raise and show us what love was meant to be, and because of that love, we were able to have him for 29 yrs.

What I missed the most about him was that we never had that father and son talk that all fathers have with their kids. Losing him was one of the hardest things I have ever gone through. I know in my heart that he is with me and looking after all of us and some day in the future we will be reunited to share that love for each other again. I let him go to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to be in his hands always.

No one knows how much we miss you. No one knows the bitter pain suffered since we lost you. Life has not been the same. In our hearts your memory lingers... Sweetly, tenderly, fondly and true. There is not a day that goes by that we don't think of you. You are not a forgotten loved one, nor will you ever be, as long as life and memory last. We will meet again with you and the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sadly missed by Mother and Father, Nellie and Russell,? brother Joey and sister Karen.

Ricky was born mentally and physically handicapped. He lived without speech and was wheelchair bound most of his life, but he taught his family the meaning of love. After Ricky's death, Russell dreamed of Ricky -- the dream came bright and clear -- Russell has been told that it was probably an After Death Communication from his son. Anyway all this made me think about how life and death are one in the same and Ricky still goes on teaching from the far side of the realm of Life called Death.

Heartland Meadows

Death and life
Ambiguous words
Both begin and end
Starting and stopping
Intertwine in what seems real
Yet engulfed by the surreal
A dreamstate -- an awakening
And Russell, he spoke of his son Richard
In the living state
Though Richard passed long ago
1992 -- July 15

Communications after death
Followed -- from son -- to father
Richard could walk in the silence of a dream
He could embrace his Dad
With words of love
Even though in life Ricky
Could not speak or walk
Richard said, "I love you..."
Russell says, "No one knows how much we miss you."

Was sleep the awakening or--
By awakening did Russell sleep
29 years no father/son talks
No dances or dates
No cars or jobs
No marriage or children
But Russell says, "...God sent him to us
To raise and show us what love was meant to be..."
Now only dreams give life
In Richard's death came life and in Richard's life
Came a lesson
The lesson was love
