Egyptian Spiny Mice

Rather than bore you with information on Spiny Mice, I will show you how cute they are and tell you WHY I like them.  For more information on them I have provided links to some wonderful and informitive sites.

Spiny Mice are nothing like the little white or fancy mice commonly fed to snakes. They are cleaner, no smelly cages, they have much more personality and rarely ever bite unless provoked or pregnant. The play chase/tag in the aquarium and care for each others babies.

The spiny mouse pictured on the left is expecting  babies any time now.  The normal gestation for a Spiny mouse is approximately 38 days.  They rarely give birth to more than 3 babies, two or three times a year.  But this mother gave birth to 6 premature babies and all but one survived.
This little guy on the right is 6-7 weeks old.  As you can see, he is just starting to get his spines.  Baby Spiny mice are very attached to their family group and when seperated they can experience a bout of depression.  When being moved away from the family it is usually easier if you move two or more from the same family to the new home.
