In the Philippines, carabao or water buffalo is the farmer's best friend. Long before the invention of modern equipments such as tractors and even until now, carabaos have been used by most farmers to prepare large fields for the planting season. Equipped with hard metallic plows attached at their back, carabaos loosen the soil across the field by dragging them to form contours of furrows. This is one of the Filipino ingenuities and state of the art technology utilizing indigenous and environmentally friendly methods of farming.
