An Open Letter to Adrian Paul and PEACE-APFC

Dear Adrian Paul et al. doing business as PEACE-APFC,

You repeatedly request that fans write PEACE/Rebecca Flynn if there is a problem with something, rather than addressing it in a public (or private) forum, chat, e-mail group, etc. I need to let you know that that is impossible to do.

I have e-mailed PEACE 7 times, the European branch once (which I received a response from within hours) and I have sent 2 or 3 letters by the United States postal system- one of which had the required SAS material in it. Within 2 of the letters I sent, I enclosed a check for membership renewal, since a renewal form was never sent to me. Since there was no response to the first letter that had the membership renewal fee in it, I canceled the check and had another one reissued and sent another letter and the check by PRIORITY mail, with confirmation. The letter was delivered at Valley Village on July 30, 1999. I had previously sent the first class self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the magazine under separate cover.

As of this date, I have received no response to my question nor any magazine, since my membership apparently expired in February, without, I repeat, any notice.

I can only assume that you have deemed me unworthy of membership in PEACE. Is it because I am a member of a forum that is outspoken with our opinions? (Several members on the same forum also never received renewal notices.) Is it because I wrote two (2) con reports about working G4, which I was told “greatly disturbed PEACE”? Is it because I am a fan who expects to be treated with respect by the fan club which I WAS a member of? Is it because I am a fan of Adrian Paul and have supported him when others have given up on him, especially after the last reprimand to the fans? Or is it because I admire his wish to use his talents and skills to further the future of children? Is it because I am not an AOL member? I would really like to know what has made me unfit to be a member of the fan club.

I must be honest. This is the first fan club I have ever belonged to. For a club that espouses PEACE, the disrespectful way so many fans have been treated gives the illusion of just the opposite. Many fans are now counted as FORMER fans and have stated they have no wish to support Adrian in any way. This is because of the way they have been treated by the fan club, spending money for merchandise never received- with no reason or response to queries concerning it, and the reprimands that Adrian feels are necessary to deliver to his fans.

Adrian needs to realize that it is his FANS that provide membership in the fan club. It is his FANS that support his attendance at conventions. It is his FANS that buy merchandise and watch the movies he performs in. It is his FANS that support his efforts in the P.E.A.C.E. Fund. Without fans, there is no demand for Adrian Paul.

I can understand his concerns for his personal safety considering the stalking incident(s). He has a considerable amount of sympathetic fans, since stalking occurs within the private sector, often with more negative results. But Adrian needs to realize that not all fans are that way- the fans that are that extreme are in a minority when compared to the FAN base that he has.

The actions of PEACE, with his stated knowledge and approval, create a very negative impression of Adrian. Many people have gone from admiration of Adrian and his skills to admiration of the character he portrayed, since Duncan MacLeod has the persona of honesty and integrity that is missing from the Adrian Paul that is coming across through PEACE-APFC.

Thank you for reading my thoughts. I am sending this letter to PEACE-APFC, but it will be signed with my RL name. I am sorry that I have been forced to no longer be a member of PEACE-APFC. I will be sending my membership fee to someone who appears to appreciate his fans and treats them with respect- Stan Kirsch or Anthony DeLongis- for donation to a charity of his choice. I will also include a letter thanking them for the respect shown his fans.

(The above is an exact copy of the letter sent on September 4, 1999 to both the United States branch and the English branch of PEACE-APFC. I also received notice from my bank that the check received on July 30 had not been cashed by PEACE. As a result, I stopped payment on that check and I split the money between Stan and Anthony, and included a letter explaining the donation.) 1
