Missing

As real as I was sitting there looking at it.
Another thought came into my head.
What if, what if I was being hunted down by the FBI or the CIA?
What if I was part of some strange experiment and the people I called parents had saved me from a laboratory only now the lab wanted me back?
What if I was infected with some deadly artificial virus and I was going to die at moment?
My blood instantly chilled.
Nah, that was too outrageous.
Besides, I’d seen enough movies to know that big undercover agencies wouldn’t go about things like that.
Too much was at stake and they may be found out.
So what then?
Well then....what if I was missing?
What if my family wasn’t my family, what if they had just kidnapped me from another family and now my real family was looking for me?
But, why did they wait until now to start?
Wouldn’t my picture have been on there three months after I had gone missing, which would have been about fourteen and three quarter years ago?
Scared out of my brain, my hand suddenly released it’s grip on the milk carton and it crashed to the floor, spraying milk everywhere.
I would have to clean that up before I went to school or mom would go off at me when she go home.
If she even was my mom.
Suddenly, I made up my mind.
I had to get to the bottom of this.
I had to do some serious investigating.
I tried to remember back to the good old days when I had absorbed myself in the wondrous world of Nancy Drew and what she would do if she was ever in this situation.
Of course she never had been.
But who had?
So that made it a little harder.
But not impossible.
Springing up from my chair, careful not to step in the milk, I raced over to the phone, grabbing the milk carton off the floor on the way.
