Chapter Seven

The eerie possibility

‘What?’ Kate looked genuinely interested.
‘Mrs Smith arranged for a woman called Diana to take me for voice training! Apparently she’s really good!’ I was pretty excited.
Maybe I was a chance to go places!
‘Wow! That’s amazing! Hey, ohhhh eerie possibility!’ Kate mused.
‘What?’
‘Well, ok, I have to ask. Are you a Hanson fan? You can be honest. We are definitely! Oh, this is Louise.’
‘Hi! Yeah! Hanson rock! I love ‘em!’
‘Great! We’ll get on famously!’ Louise smiled.
‘So, what’s the eerie possibility?’
Suddenly it hit me.
‘No way! There is no way! How many Diana’s do you think there are in Tulsa?’
‘Hey! You never know do you? Wouldn’t that be way beyond cool? Could you imagine?’ Kate got all dreamy.
They helped me find my locker as we talked about Hanson.
I totally did not buy the ‘Diana Hanson’ thing at all.
The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, Math and English Lit were barely manageable on great days.
As soon as the last bell rang, I hi-tailed it back to the auditorium.
Mrs. Smith was talking to another teacher when I arrived.
I waited around for about ten minutes.
As soon as she was done, she ushered me into her office.
‘Now dear, I called Diana again and gave her your number. She said she’d call you tonight. Is that ok?’
‘That’s fine. Thanks so much!’
‘My pleasure my dear! Now, I’m afraid I’m going to have to kick you out, I have some students in soon.’
‘No probs! I have to go anyway. But thank you so much!’
‘Just go before I change my mind and keep you for myself!’ she laughed.
I left.
As I was walking out, I noticed the school was practically deserted.
‘Wow! People sure clear outta here fast!’
I had to walk home so I headed over past the bus stop.
I noticed a car pull into the bus stop and three guys get out, one short and two about the same height, but they were too far away for me to see what they looked like.
They did all appear to have longish hair.
I got home and practically sat by the phone the whole night waiting for Diana to ring.
It was about eight when she did.
I jumped on it on the third ring.
‘Hello?’
‘Hello. I was wondering if I could speak to Peta Thomas please? It’s Diana …….’
(I didn’t catch the last name)
‘Oh! This is Peta. Thank you for calling!’
‘Not a problem! As soon as I heard your tape I knew I wanted to get in touch with you.’
‘Oh.’
